Ok Ladies my husband is trying to do a duty swap with the Corpsman on the Honolulu that is heading to the Shipyard to be decommission. We wont know for sure until April but he was told that it should be a done deal. I am planning on moving up there sometime in June or July while my husband is out to sea so I will be there when the boat pulls in into Wa. So this means I will have to move by myself with my 2 kids without my husband. So I need some info. I want to know how housing is and if it takes a long time to get into housing? How are the schools? How far is the airport from Bermerton? We have to ship our cars from Hawaii to Wa. and where do the cars come into and how far is that from Bermerton? If you can think of anything else to tell me that will be helpfull in my move I will appreciate it.

As for housing..looking at the posts called JP and thats Jasckson Park in Bremerton. The airport is in Seattle so its about an hour away from Bremerton but you can catch the airport shuttle into Bremerton, but you better call and let them know so that they have room for you and the kids and your stuff. As for cars they come into Tacomma and thats about 30-45 minutes away depends on what time of day you are going. As for schools the other ladies can help you there I didn't have any kids at the time I lived up there.

For Bangor Schools, you have several choices depending on what part of housing you live in (but they are not very strict if you have a preference). Clear Creek is the largest and closest to Bangor (walking distance for the lower housing area). Cougar Valley is nice and has high marks. They are both in Central Kitsap School District (you can find them online). Your other choice is Vinland Elementary in the North Kitsap School District. This is a very good school with above average marks (scores). There is a uniform policy. Bus transportation is provided for all if needed. I would check out the district websites along with www.greatschools.net. This website will give you the demographics, scores and teacher info. I believe the district websites have the state test scores for you to evaluate. Good luck.

Thanks for the ifo about the schools. I am pretty sure they are a lot better than the schools here in Hawaii.

Housing is PPV (Bangor base) and Navy (Jackson Park). JP is off-base, Bangor is on. Bangor's wait list depends on the number of bedrooms you need. Right now 2 bedrooms are walk-in, three are about 3 months, and four is a pretty long wait (at least the last I heard, which was January).

You should have absolutely no problem getting housing in JP. Just in my building of 6 townhouses we have 2 empty houses, a family moving out this week, and another family moving out before the middle of next month. These are 3 bedrooms 1 full bath and 2 half baths.
