View Full Version : Name brand or generic? sgmwife1 02-16-2007, 09:25 AM I buy both. Name brands are sometimes cheaper with coupons.:dunno Just wondering what everyone else does? MelissaMc424 02-16-2007, 09:27 AM Certain things I buy name brand.. like toilet paper and coffee.. gotta have charmin and folgers.. but most things I'll buy store brand.. MelissaMc424 02-16-2007, 09:27 AM I have a bad habit of collecting/saving coupons and then never remembering to use them.. Becca 02-16-2007, 09:29 AM It really depends on what the product is. For example, diapers I'll only buy Pampers cruisers. TP I'll only buy Cottonelle. Most other stuff though I'll just buy whatever is most affordable. :dunno harrisonsdream 02-16-2007, 09:30 AM depends but usually name brand. sgmwife1 02-16-2007, 09:32 AM I use Scott tissue toilet paper ONLY. There are some things I will NOT budge on. HEIDI 02-16-2007, 09:33 AM I use a little of both MelissaMc424 02-16-2007, 09:34 AM I use Scott tissue toilet paper ONLY. There are some things I will NOT budge on. I grew up using scott.. DH only likes Charmin.. (he's the picky one..LOL) I never switched DD out of Huggies diapers, and will only use Pullups brand on her now.. Becca 02-16-2007, 09:46 AM HOW CAN YOU USE SCOTT?? It's like wiping your derierre with a piece of tissue paper :rofl I guess if I'd grown up using it I'd be able to deal...but WOW my dad uses Scott and I have to pull half the roll off :lol MelissaMc424 02-16-2007, 09:49 AM HOW CAN YOU USE SCOTT?? It's like wiping your derierre with a piece of tissue paper :rofl I guess if I'd grown up using it I'd be able to deal...but WOW my dad uses Scott and I have to pull half the roll off :lol I know.. I'm the same way when we're at my Dad's.. he's a strict Scott person..lol... I think it's one step above the GI toilet paper the guys talk about... I guess I'm spoiled, but I like "softer" toilet paper.. sgmwife1 02-16-2007, 09:51 AM HOW CAN YOU USE SCOTT?? It's like wiping your derierre with a piece of tissue paper :rofl I guess if I'd grown up using it I'd be able to deal...but WOW my dad uses Scott and I have to pull half the roll off :lol Well, it seems to last the longest and it is better for septic systems. I have always been a :quotehard ass:quote hahaha :hystericlaugh MelissaMc424 02-16-2007, 09:52 AM LOL.. Seriously that's the only reason we used it when I was a kid, is that it dissolves easy and won't cause you to have to pump the septic system nearly as often! Becca 02-16-2007, 09:54 AM Well, it seems to last the longest and it is better for septic systems. I have always been a :quotehard ass:quote hahaha :hystericlaugh :hystericlaugh I didn't realize there was an environmental advantage :dunno Ellen 02-16-2007, 10:35 AM It depends on the product. I have no problem buying generic/store brand canned veggies, spaghetti sauce, bread... But NEVER Canned Raviolis, or Spaghettios. I usually won't budge on Ice Cream either - Bryers or Edys. Store brand just doesn't taste as good. Paper towels - Bounty. They just last longer - their napkins are really good too. Toilet paper - we grew up on Scott - that's why I DON'T use it :) I'm a Northern or Angel Soft buyer. BzzzWife 02-16-2007, 10:49 AM Depends on the product..I'll buy both Ste9 02-16-2007, 11:13 AM We buy a lot of generic brand stuff but we do use some name brand. I generally buy whatever is cheapest dollface 02-16-2007, 12:34 PM More name brand than generic just because of the quality. I will try the store brand once to see if it is the same but most often...there are differences in taste and quality that I just don't like. When I go somewhere like Trader Joes or Henry's....their brand is actually pretty good. I would way on average its about 90% name brand and 10% generic. NavyChiefs_Wife 02-16-2007, 12:35 PM I buy both. But there are certain things like bread and soda that I buy name brand. luvmysailor81904 02-16-2007, 12:45 PM I'm an Equate kind of girl when it comes to most things :) Works just as good for half the price! *Melissa* 02-16-2007, 01:05 PM Depends, but I do buy a lot of generic stuff.... One thing I won't buy generic is tampons :lol *Crystal* 02-16-2007, 01:14 PM We buy alot of name brand stuff!! I just like the better quality!! Whats a few more dollars for something thats a little better? cookie 02-16-2007, 09:16 PM We use both, it just depends on what it is. leftover 02-16-2007, 09:19 PM From what I understand the generic brand can give you salmonella just as easy as Peter Pan can..:neener Kelsey 02-16-2007, 09:23 PM From what I understand the generic brand can give you salmonella just as easy as Peter Pan can..:neener :lol We buy both...depends on what it is. For some reason, I can't buy name-brand 409 or laundry detergent. I also have to buy Dillon's brand milk - can't stand the store-brands. I'm weird. Just depends on the thing I'm buying, but if I can save money on something that I don't care whether it's generic or not, I'll go for the generic. define 02-17-2007, 03:00 AM Depends on what the product is but mostly we buy name brand. VinnysGirl 02-17-2007, 03:06 AM Depends on the product, some I will buy generic, but there are some I will only buy name brand!! proudofmysailor 02-17-2007, 04:42 PM It depends on the product, and if I have coupons (and remember to bring them to the store). I don't buy generic peanut butter or ketchup though. Carrie 02-17-2007, 05:07 PM you know ive never noticed:dunno i guess i just get whatever is cheaper. lol:yes jairoo04 02-17-2007, 05:34 PM I use a little of both. I'm a coupon cutter. I also buy most things like tp at BJ's or sam's club in bulk. Then it is def cheaper. I didnt budge on pullups either. It had to be the pullups brand. airyn1 02-17-2007, 06:49 PM I don't care about brand names, I'm all about the price. KevzQueen 02-18-2007, 02:12 AM both BLBnJVB3 02-18-2007, 08:59 AM Depends on what it is. Heather 02-18-2007, 11:14 AM I buy the best quality for the least amount of money. There are some name brand things I always buy like bleach because I think clorox just works better and it comes in scents. toilet paper has to be cottonell since all the other brands are very irrating to my skin. Nothings worse than a crotch rash. Gunnersgirl 02-18-2007, 06:51 PM a few things I will buy generic it just depends what it is. For instance my peanut butter has to be Jiff I won't ever compromise on that and their are a few other items I have to have a particular brand. Shaky 02-18-2007, 10:35 PM It all depends. Sometimes I get really good deal with name brands and coupons too but if it's not something we are picky about then I don't mind getting the generic. Pebbles 02-19-2007, 01:04 PM Just depends, we're not name-brand loyal. Jennifer 02-19-2007, 01:08 PM It depends on preference...there are some things that HAVE to be a certain brand, not necessarily name brand, sometimes I prefer the generic....but normally I just go by price DakotaCowgirl 02-19-2007, 09:58 PM I guess I am off. I shop mostly commissary and here it is name brand. I am pretty strict on my canned/frozen veggies, pads, soups. But for cheese, flour, spices, ect....I don't care if it is the off brand. BTW...I am only a Charmin girl! gotstabemel 03-13-2007, 10:45 PM i usually buy generic except in syrup and ketchup and a few other things.. they taste different and generic |
