I heard that anyone can live in housing there and I wondered if that was true. I hope it's just a rumor. Is the housing there just for military?

We had low income housing living next door to us for about 1 month and then they moved out but they were not affiliated with the military. I do know DoD and retirees can live here as well. We live in Forrestal Village housing.

Yes, it's true. As long as they can pay the rent and pass a credit check, they can move in. They are offering the brand new houses to civilians yet they fought us on getting a 4 bedroom house for nearly a year, even though we have three kids. Gotta love the money hungry forest city :)

Thats one of the things I hated when they took over.

Thank you. I had no idea, Forest city does not do that here. I'm not sure what we'll do now. Is it that bad?

It depends, I guess. Yes, they are horrible to deal with. They are very unfair in many ways and money seems to take priority over the well being of residents... that's very apparent. However, within the next 18 months, all of the old housing should be demolished and all of the homes should be brand spankin new... single family, 2 story, attached garage, 3-4 bedrooms, back yards, etc. So, it's terrible now but I guess it's supposed to get better. :dunno

We just got a huge packet delivered to us by Forest City and civilians will not be able to get into one of the new homes. Those are for military only. If civilians want to live in our housing they are offered an older home. Single Service Members will NOT be allowed to live in a new home either.
Great Lakes was suppose to get the duplexes and it got switched around so Fort Sheridan gets duplexes and Great Lakes has the single family homes.

Brandi, in our packet it stated that you wouldn't have been allowed to move so I guess you got lucky ;)

i was thinking the same thing i see both points that are views in my house i think that military should live together but i also understand when hubby says that it would just be like living out in town . so both are good views its just all up to personal preference i guess

What do you mean I got lucky? The ONLY reason we were moved is because we provided medical documentation for Jaxon's condition. They definitely wouldn't have moved us just out of the kindness of their hearts.

I am sadden by the fact that it is so hard to move into a bigger room home there.
