View Full Version : Virus & vomiting?
Rileysmom 02-21-2007, 08:14 PM Riley has some nasty ass virus that came on with a quickness today.. completely out of nowhere! Anyways, the nurse told me what to do, what to watch for, what to feed him, etc. But he keeps throwing up... Is there a point where he can be vomiting too much? :worried
And what did you do for sleeping? I am worried that he will throw up all over his crib, and then our bed, and then the couch, etc.. any tips? :nutts
MichelleB 02-21-2007, 08:21 PM Just make sure he doesn't get dehydrated from throwing up. That's what I've always been told when babies throw up a lot. Even if he's puking everything up, give him water or juice. Poor little guy.....
Do you have a play pen he will sleep in? That might be easier to clean out of he throws up....other wise, I would just keep extra sheets for his crib handy tonight.
I hope he feels better soon Trey!
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 02-21-2007, 08:24 PM Aww poor thing I hope he gets better soon. :( :hugs I agree though even if he keeps throwing it up keep trying to give him something to drink.
*tina* 02-21-2007, 08:25 PM Our little man had that nasty virus over Thanksgiving weekend. It was horrible. We kept him in the pack and play in our room, it was much easier to keep clean. We were told we could give him pedialyte, but since he has allergies, we ended up giving him beef broth or chicken broth a little teensy bit at a time. Less than an ounce, otherwise you'll have the throwing up all over again.
Hope your little one feels better soon!

:yes I agree with all of that. I sure hope he feels better soon. 2 of mine have fevers today....in fact for about 2 weeks now at least one person has had a fever in the house every day in the past 2 weeks. Thankfully no throwing up here.
Rileysmom 02-21-2007, 08:32 PM Thanks for the help ladies! :hugs I think that the Pack and Play is a great idea! You can wipe that clean and he can sleep near us.
I have been giving him tiny amounts of water and Ryan just ran to get some Gatorade too. The nurse suggested chicken and stars soup too, because the stars have a bit of substance to them, but it's still really light too...
So how do I tell if he is dehydrated? I have been keep tabs of the last times he has peed and such, and it's about every 2-3 hours, which the nurse says is okay.. is there anything else to watch out for it besides that?
MichelleB 02-21-2007, 08:34 PM You can tell if he's dehydrated by how much he pees and if he produces tears.

Aren't you sick too? :freakout I don't know how you do it woman!!

Okay that's good to know! He has tears when he throws up (:sadeyes) so that's good.
Thanks for all the help ladies! I feel lucky in the sense that this is his first flu/virus, but not in the sense that I feel so helpless and clueless! :dramaqueen :lol
MichelleB 02-21-2007, 08:38 PM :hugs It's the most stressful thing when they are sick Trey! Hang in there.
Kaymara 02-21-2007, 08:44 PM Ethan had this last year and the day of my c-section this year. Last year he got SEVERELY dehydrated and needed an IV and was almost admitted
Watch his diapers. ANY less then 3 pee diapers then take him in. NO milk. Stick to pedialyte and water. Small small sips. Dont let him guzzle. BLAND diet. Applesauce, nanners, toast, saltines, rice etc. I watched Ethan all day and at the point that he wouldnt even keep his pedilyte down I took him in. He was in a pruning stage and really dehydrated. He was sleeping ALL day (this was last year) and only awake for 30 minutes at a time to puke. They got a IV in him and he didnt protest. Eyeys just rolled into the back of his head. It was heartwrenching
Follow your gut and if you think you need to take him in then do so. It doesnt take much for them to get dehydrated at their age. Good luck and huge :hugs
TrishaM 02-21-2007, 08:53 PM Ugh Jakob had that last week, but he never ran a temp I just gave him pedisure since he wasnt eating very well and NOT milk. I hope he feels better soon!
Caimbrie 02-21-2007, 08:55 PM All 3 of my kids had a nasty stomache thing. They were all throwing up for DAYS. Even Alex would throw up on the floor rather than in a bucket or the toilet. They threw up everywhere... not really much you can do about that.
Just keep him hydrated and the pack n play idea sounds good :)
~Jess~ 02-21-2007, 08:58 PM Don't give him gatorade trey give him pedialyte. prop up his head tonight so if he does throw up it doesn't make him choke in his sleep. Ella had this when she was about 9 months. I was told not to feed her anything b/c she will just throw it back up just to give her 1 or 2 oz of pedialyte at a time it will keep him hydrated. Good Luck girl I hope he feels better and you don't catch it. Oh and Ella's bug last alittle more then 24 hrs.
Heather 02-21-2007, 09:01 PM Cory was super sick like that once. He threw up all over everything so finally I pumped up our air mattress and turned it plastic side up covered it with a sheet and I slept with him on that. When he threw up I tried to get it in a huge bowl and the rest I could easily wipe off the mattress.
Rileysmom 02-21-2007, 09:09 PM Thanks for all the help ladies, I really appreciate it. We just tried 2 saltines and 1.5 oz of Pedialyte. That was about 20 minutes ago, and it's staying down.
Kristi- Poor E! I can't even imagine, and on the day of your C-section to boot! :sadeyes
RockstarMom 02-21-2007, 09:19 PM I had that last night. It was AWFUL! :sadeyes Poor boy!
Teaspoons of pedialyte if he's vomitting after everytime he drinks. :yes Aiden got a violent tummy virus about Riley's age and that's what we had to do.

Yeah I am hoping I don't get it, but I doubt that! I was all loving up on the little man this morning! :freakout
The pedialyte seems to really be helping though! :whew
Brandi 02-21-2007, 09:35 PM Shit, girl. That sounds terrrible :scared We usually deal with it once a year AT LEAST... usually twice a year. Its just awful, especially having more than one young child. They alternate barfing and keeping each other awake, then I'm usually barfing also. Man oh man. Not looking forward to getting that again :scared I hope he feels better really soon. Just pedialyte and small sips of water!
