If a carseat is suppost to be replaced every six years it would be pointless to buy one that can hold a 100 lbs or even 80lbs, when the child is an infant. no 6 year old should weigh 100 lbs maybe 80 lbs I supose. my son is going to be 8 in a few months and he hasn't even broke 50lbs yet. I was just thinking about this. what are your thoughts?

we bought the Alpha Omega for Lily when she was a baby and I didn't think about this until just the other day but her carseat will have to be destroyed in 2 years. It can hold up to 80 lbs and there is no way she will double her weight in 2 years, so we wont be getting the full benifit of the seat. im kinda irked about that. I wish this is something I would have thought about 4 years ago when we were choosing a carseat.

I was told with infant carriers no more than 3 yrs because of new advances in them but I'd assume the same with carseats. I think part of it too stinks because they cost so much and you don't get the FULL use unless you have another child to fit in the old one :dunno

Carseats have some sort of expiration date printed on them. Ryan has a Sunshine Kids radian 65 and Dylan has the eddie baurer three in one. When Ryan is around six i'll probably put him in a belt-positioning booster and move Dylan into his carseat. It is dumb that the carseats only last 6 years, but i'm sure if they are taken car of then they will last longer.

I say a carseat is worth every bit of money you spend on them, whether you have to buy 1 or 5. :thumbsup

My son will be 8 at the end of July & he weighs 64lbs as of last week. And he is very tall for that matter!

We bought good but a little less expensive when they were younger before we knew about Britax carseats. We invested in 2 Husky's 2 years ago (the 5pt harness ones to 80lbs which are now the Regent's) & 2 Parkway's (the boosters) a few months ago. The kids were 3 & a little over 5. They are well worth the money! And had I know about Britax when they were younger, I would have spent the money on Marathon's or Roundabouts.

But no, I would not buy a Regent or Parkway when they are younger just because they are not designed for infants or newborns. I would however invest in them when they were over a year old & over the 20lb (sometimes 22lbs) minimum weight requirement!
