My hubby's about to re-enlist, and we're supposedly going to be getting stationed at Fort Knox... so I was wondering if anyone is there or has been there and could tell me what it's like. Someone told him that it's a dump and that it's horrible there, but then I've heard other people say the opposite. So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about the area and what not. We're planning on buying our first home near there, so I'm really hoping that it's not a bad area and what not around the base. Thanks!

My family is from "the area" but we're Navy and have never been stationed there. If I remember correctly the housing market is great and the area is nice. My sister lived in that area for awhile. I love KY!!!

I'm living out by Ft. Knox right now-my husband is stationed there and we live off post.
I'm in between about the place. It's nice but at the same time it's not somewhere I would want to live forever. It's really good country and pretty when everything is green-but it's a little too small for me I guess. The town right by Ft. Knox is a bit lacking. Radcliff is the town right outside of the base and it can be a little crummy in areas. Just watch the neighboor you look for a house-some are nice, some are dumps and right by trailers. Elizabethtown is a bigger city about 10 minutes away and where I live closer too-it's a better sized place-but it isn't a big city so it lacks an abundance of places-but has all the major stores and whatnot and cute places. Louisville is the biggest city close by-about 45 minute to an hour away.

Hoped that somewhat helped. If you have any specific questions or want to know anything else I'll be happy to answer.

She summed it up pretty well!

I'm on Fort Knox, and work in Louisville. My husband hates it here, but I met him here, so I'm obviously partial.

This was posted awhile back, but not sure if you're here already?
