View Full Version : Ear piercing
Germanchick 03-09-2007, 02:30 PM I have always said I'd wait till Kaitlyn starts going to school. My mom took me shortly before I started 1st grade. But I'm so tempted to get Miss K's ears done now. Plus I'm so tired of people thinking she's a boy as soon as I don't dress her all in pink. One lady even asked me if she was a boy WHILE she was wearing all pink! When did you get your DD's ears done if she has piercings? Pros/cons
If we do indeed have a girl she will get her ears pierced while she is a baby :)
*Crystal* 03-09-2007, 02:36 PM We got DDs ears done when she was 5 months old! We have never had ANY problems with them so far and shes 14 months old! Oh people still thought she was a boy with the earrings! So that didnt change anything!
Donna 03-09-2007, 02:37 PM I took Savannah when she was 2 months. They said that they normally can do them that early. but her ear lobes were too small. so i took her back when she was 6 months.
the biggest pro about getting them done as a baby. you dont have to worry about her playing with them and causing an infection.
Kelsey 03-09-2007, 02:39 PM I don't have children yet, but I have always thought that I would wait until she was old enough to actually choose whether she wanted her ears pierced or not.
Ellen 03-09-2007, 02:46 PM I waited until Morissa asked. She was 6 the first time - they closed when we switched to regular earings...so we waited until she was 8.
DaPookie 03-09-2007, 02:47 PM I don't have children yet, but I have always thought that I would wait until she was old enough to actually choose whether she wanted her ears pierced or not.
:agree I got mine done when I was 13 as a prezzie for becoming a teenager. I'd probably do the same if I had children.
HEIDI 03-09-2007, 02:49 PM Brenna got hers done when she was a baby, I know less than a year. she rarely wears earring to school but will wear them at social functions. Now she wants "other " piercings
We got our girls ears pierced when they were babies. Brayana was a few weeks old when we got them done. Walmart makes you wait until they have had the Hep B shots and I had to take Taniyah's shot record in to prove that she had gotten them
Shep's Wife 03-09-2007, 02:50 PM We did Julie and Kelsey's at 6-7 months old, they did just fine.
Emily cant have here done, she has a heart defect and we havent even thought about little Tori's ears yet:giggle
ETA: we got it done at Claires
Victoria 03-09-2007, 02:52 PM I got my own done as a baby. I love earrings and NEVER go out in public without them....lol!
I know if I had a daughter I'd be doing the same and getting hers pierced as an infant.
missinghim 03-09-2007, 02:57 PM My mom didn't get mine done as a child because she wanted me to be old enough to care for them by myself.
Well, needless to say I'm allergic to nickle and terrified of needles so it's no earrings for me :lmao
chelsea<3josh 03-09-2007, 03:04 PM I always wanted mine done but my mom made me wait until I was 8. I think if I have a girl I'd get hers done when she was a baby-esp if people can't tell she's a girl because my mom said people always thought I was a boy-I had no hair until I was like 3 or 4!! lol
~Jess~ 03-09-2007, 03:09 PM I had mine done as a baby. I got Ella's done when she was 4 months at walmart. They just asked if she had her shots and that was it. I made sure two people were working so they could do both at the same time. It was a trying event for us. It took many weeks for me to just do it. Needless to say we both cried and people came from many isles to see what I was doing to that poor baby. On a good note she has never messed with them and I just changed them out to a diffrent pair. Just make sure you get the locking backs so if she does pull at them they wont come out.
Traci 03-09-2007, 03:20 PM DD was 4 months old.
Ashnbri 03-09-2007, 03:52 PM If we ever have a girl I would take her to get her ears done as soon as the Dr said it was okay..wheter it was 4 months or 6 months...But I think I would personally wait till she reached around 6 months before I would get them done.
Amber V 03-09-2007, 05:03 PM I always thought I would wait until closer to 10. But my oldest dd started asking me at 2 1/2. I think it is because I worked at a jewelry store and she always wanted to wear my ear rings. So finally when she was 3 I broke down and let her do it. I will not let my youngest until she is at least 3 also and asks persistantly for months as well.
define 03-09-2007, 05:24 PM I had mine done when I was old enough to decide for myself if I wanted them or not and could take care of them. I'd love to get my daughters pierced but I'm going to wait because as it is now, she already beats up my labret and tugs on my ear rings. I don't want her to rip hers out.
iceprincessnw 03-09-2007, 05:35 PM i got both my girls done at 12 months
CoffeeGirl 03-09-2007, 06:31 PM I got my dd's done at 2 months & there were no cons-but the biggest pro was that she was too young to even remember it happening & she never fussed with her ears or anything-I am glad we did it when we did
:yes :yes :thumbsup
BLBnJVB3 03-09-2007, 06:33 PM I got Breanna's done when she was 6 months. She screamed bloody murder while it was happening but afterwards she was fine. She never messed with them either. The problem we had came when she was 18 months and some kid at day care ripped one out of her ear. We never found it so I had to put different ones in her ears. From then on she messed with them. I would have to watch what type I would put in her ears cause those hoop ones she about ripped out of her ears a few times. I kept going smaller but it didn't matter. We ended up only being able to do the studs. She'll be 6 tomorrow and hardly ever wears earrings. She has several pairs but rarely wants to wear them and when she does after a little bit says they hurt her ears so she wants to take them out. She looked so darn cute in them when she was little that it would be really hard to not get this little one's ears pierced if he was a girl. But at the same time when I think of Breanna I think it might have been better to have waited.
Every child is different though so she may do really well and never an issue. Good Luck in your decision.
Oh, and people always called Breanna a boy, too. I had her in all pink, a dress, too, with her earrings in one day and a lady still asked how old HE was. :duh
Cherrish 03-09-2007, 09:32 PM My mom and sister took DD to get hers done when she was 6 months old....I was in Alaska, but I'm assuming it went pretty well, except for the initial pain.
mara_jade81 03-09-2007, 11:38 PM Yeah I'm really not into the piercing a baby's ears. I think it should be up to them when they get older.
Believe me, they will still call her a him even if she's dressed in a pink frilly dress and has earrings. People are just blind! And if you had a boy they'd probably call he a she when he was wearing all blue :lol
harrisonsdream 03-09-2007, 11:41 PM i had mine done when i was a toddler.
Angelina 03-10-2007, 09:34 AM I got Americus ears done at 4 months old and the doctors office did it for us.
trevsnavywife 03-10-2007, 09:41 AM We did Katrina's at 3 mo. I had mine done as a baby and my mom said she was glad she did it then b/c I wouldn't remember the pain...
We did it at Claires.
dollface 03-10-2007, 09:46 AM Our first daughter had her's done at 6 months. Her doctor's office pierced them for about $25 and she didn't have any problems with them. My youngest is 5 now and I am not sure why I didn't pierce them...but I wish we did....now we will wait until she asks for them....lol.
Heather 03-10-2007, 11:53 AM I got Lilys done when she was 18 months. I wanted to do it sooner but daddy didn't want it at all. She cried at first but was fine within minutes. She never messed with them and hasn't had any problems.
People still asked if she was a boy. Poor girl was bald until she was 2 I thought having earings would have helped.
sailorsbaby 03-10-2007, 08:42 PM My friend has a son who has a pierced ear...since he was only a few months old. No kidding. Anyhow. I had my daughers done at six years old. All my friends that had their babies done, and those babies all cried and cried, I couldn't bring myself to do it. So, six years old. She jumped at the sound of the gun, looked like she was getting ready to cry and then said, oh, that was just a pinch. LOL
When we have a girl we will wait until she wants it and can take care of her ears. I am not into putting holes into babies.
Svea's_mom_5206 03-10-2007, 09:25 PM We are not going to pierce our DD's ears, we are going to let her decide when she is older. Besides she likes tugging on her ears to much. I have had tons of people ask me if she is a boy too, even when she was wearing pink, I think it is because most people don't think that the color for boys and girls stands anymore. To an extent it doesn't but i have still to see a boy in pink. lol
aelsass 03-10-2007, 10:51 PM I really want her to have hers done now and DH wants to wait.....I keep trying to talk him into it though.
bettyboop604 03-11-2007, 03:33 AM I had Elly's done at 4 months. I went to Merle Norman. They did both ears at the same time and she did not even know what hit her. She was fine, my sister (the one who insisted we do it) was bawling in the corner of the store.
