I know that you are not supposed to let your babies sleep on their tummies, but I have been letting Ava sleep on hers during the day when I am awake so that I can be sure that she is okay. I really don't think that she likes sleeping on her back. Do any of you let your babies sleep on their tummy?

Jacob my Ds was a tummy sleeper from day one he would wake up every few minutes not comfortable on his back so we switched him to his back and he was the best sleeper I say do what your baby is comfortable with just watch them.funny how statistics change about SIDS every other year no tummy sleeping no back sleeping..I say whatever is comfortable for your child

I know! My mom said the other day how she thought that it was funny how things change. She said "Oh please, lay that baby on her stomach, your still around aren't ya?" meaning that I slept on my stomach and lived.

Ella has slept on her belly since day one. We did it in the hospital(I don't suggest anyone do that) they flip her like a pancake but when we got home we put her back on her belly. Within the first week or two she was able to turn her head on her own so I wasn't worried. She is now 17 mos and still sleeps on her belly. I think you should do what makes you comfy.
When I was little I would only sleep on my tummy with my legs curled under and my butt in the air! :lol

My mom is a nurse in labor and delivery and in the nursery at the hospital here and I talked to her about this not to long ago because both of mine slept so much better on their tummy. She said that they were told by one of the dr's the other day that there has been a report released that despite what they have thought in the past there are no signs that sleeping on their stomachs increases the risk of SIDS, and that it's more about the baby being able to use their hands to pull blankets and stuff closer to their face. She said that they are still "advised" to tell their patients that babies should be on their backs but there really isnt any medical reason for it.

DD was a tummy sleeper also from day one. If we tried putting her on her back a few times, and she would not go to sleep. She did the same thing as Sonia and would pull her legs under her with her but up in the air. After about an hour, she would finally stretch out.

DD was a tummy sleeper, she slept much better on her tummy, and from a VERY early age was able to turn and lift her head. I was paranoid about it for a while, but then all the older women in my family reminded me that most of the babies in our family have been tummy sleepers.. so after that I calmed down...

DD was a back sleeper for all of about 3 weeks....then she started tummy sleeping.
If I tried to put her to sleep on her back, she would wake up numerous times during the night....I finally got tired of getting no sleep, and let her have her way.
"They" say tummy sleeping is a no-no because of SIDS, but recent research has shown that SIDS is linked to an abnormality in the part of the brain that controls breathing, body temp., ect. so.....do whatever works for you.

Our two oldest were belly sleepers. The baby slept at an incline for four months.

There is a new moniter that they have out by Angle Care, It goes under the mattress and an alarm goes off if the baby quits breathing or moving for more than 20sec. They are on walmart.com and at babys r us for around a hundred dollers.
