DF's RATE just last week started stay the night duty. I don't really care for it b/c I don't get to talk to him.

I know I am being a baby but, I thought that when they were home that they got to come home except while they had watch. Guess I was wrong.

It's not his boat that just started that it's his RATE that just started that ;)

Because my husband is a nuke electrician he always has to stay the night when he has duty (on that boat it was 6am to 7pm the NEXT night for his division) and he had duty every other day.. so he was only home a few nights a week. You're actually really lucky that he's the rate he is or he'd never be home.. the electrical division there has gotten REALLY bad. They were already undermanned and have lost Tony and another guy this week. Tony had that shitty schedule for the past 3 years.

Thanks sorry I am getting used to the terms of things!!

He has duty ever 3 days for now. It might change to everyother day.
Sorry I hope things do get better for ya'll.

So far for his rate it hasn't been that bad.

Thanks it will just take me some time to get used to. Because I know that it will be longer when he is at sea.

His rate wont ever be as bad as Tony's rate luckily. He has a job that's a LOT different. There is a saying "pick your rate, pick your fate" and it really is true. I LOVED 3 sections after him being port and starboard for so long :lol

port and starboard duty is what they call having duty every other day.

There are 2 sides of the ship.. the port side and the starboard side. When they have duty every other day there are only 2 duty sections.. so instead of saying section 1 and section 2 they say port and starboard.

I've pretty much gotten used to the fact that Dh is going to get shat on every time he has duty. He usually gets no sleep and is stuck doing all the other morons jobs. he's about to start working in another department (not his rate, don't ask me why) and he'll more than likely be on the ship from 7am to 5pm or later every day (non-duty days) and then have to work his regular rate and his new job on his duty days and continue to run the ASW crap even though they have TAD him on the ship.... :no I don't understand it, nor do I want to and I don't like it, but I tolerate it just so I'm not a pain for him to come home to after leaving a hellish job!!!

After a while you become numb to it girl!! :D Good luck!!!

So true!!! I actually enjoy duty nights because I get to have "girl talk" & dinner with my friends w/o feeling guilty about leaving Bryan home all by himself. :teehee

DH has always been able to call me on overnight duty.. he always calls either right when he gets on watch, or right after he's off watch. We'll talk for a few mins, catch up on each other's days and then say good night..

We can always get together!!! I'll have a FREE sitter since Bryan won't be attached to a regular command. Old Dominion's NROTC will be his official command.
