We have two new girls in our home. They are supposed to be short term placements while a relative is found and cleared. The girls are 5 and 13. The 13 year old is about 3 months pregnant but hasn't been seen yet. Mom is dying of cancer and took off. No one knows where she is. The 5 year old will be six in June and has not been to school this year. It really is a sad, tragic situation.

Wow, that is so sad. Hopefully, you can be a positive influence in their lives no matter how long or short they're with you.

wow! Are you going to take her to the DR? My parents have done fostering for 14 + children and I know that is one thing they have never encountered!

I have a call into the prenatal clinic at the health center. If they can't see her then I will take her to the pregnancy care center which is like a crisis pregnancy center. We've had over 40 foster kids but this is the first time we've had one who was pregnant.

Does she have any maternity clothes? I know she's probably smaller then any of my stuff but I would by more then happy to send anything that might help. I know foster kids (and kids in similar crappy situations) don't usually have much with them when they come to you.

We went shopping after the girls got here and got a few things. Well $500 worth of stuff but when you start from scratch it's not much. Raquel (the older girl) came with 2 pair of socks, 3 shirts, 3 pair of sweats, and 1 bra. Gabby (the 5 year old) came with a small duffle bag of stuff that I washed but most of it will be play clothes. Basically if I wouldn't allow my kids to wear it out my foster kids won't wear it out anywhere either. I'm going to contact the pregnancy care center to get her some clothes.

Do you get money to do that or does it come out of your pocket so to speak?

We get $200 for their initial clothing allowance. We can request the remainder of their clothing allowance which totals around $200 I believe. We always end up paying more for our kids than what we get for them.

She wears a junior XL so I'm guessing she'd probably wear a medium in maternity. She's not a small girl, not huge either. I gave a box of maternity clothes to a friend during her last pregnancy and she's supposed to be bringing it back to me on Sat. I don't even remember what all is in there but hopefully some stuff that she can wear.

Wow!

Goodluck to you. What an inspiration. My parents wanted to foster, but they ended up getting too busy with the friends my sister would bring home. It's tough to bring in total strangers but rewarding.

I hope things go well for you & the family. :)
