View Full Version : Hey active duty ladies..
leftover 04-01-2007, 09:45 PM If a single guy lives on base, does he still get a BAH?
Does that change if he's deployed?
If a family lives on base do they get a BAH?
We're NG, so base living isn't part of our lives... I'm just wondering..
Ashnbri 04-01-2007, 09:57 PM Okay anyone living on base housing...no matter if it is a single guy in barracks or a family do not get BAH because that goes to there base housing (they get it but dont see any extra money...,.like if they lived out in town and found a cheaper place than what there BAH covers) A single person in the military can live off base and recieve BAH but he has to fill out paper work and I think they have to approve it...and I think it is easier to do the higher your rank is.
Ohana6 04-01-2007, 10:02 PM We live on base and get BAH, we're in privatized housing.
A single guy, assuming he lives in the barracks, would not get a housing allowance. He wouldn't get it while deployed either, he'd be on a base, in a tent, on a ship, whatever.
missinghim 04-01-2007, 10:03 PM Nick and I aren't married and he is a third class and he is not eligible for BAH :)
Ashnbri 04-01-2007, 10:05 PM But a Single guy would basically be getting it..he just wouldn't see it.;.he wouldn't be paying rent it would be paid for and that is what BAH does. Same with families .

Oh, I think I see.. It would be like they'd be taking his "rent payment" right out of his check, righ?
usnfla4 04-01-2007, 10:07 PM ok, I'm new to this, and I've heard DB mention BAH before, but I'm confused as to what it exactly is.. help? Thanks!
Ashnbri 04-01-2007, 10:08 PM Yeah if he is in the barracks and most on base housing for families do the same thing as well..you get the money but you dont see it becuase it goes straight to your "Rent". BAH is Basic Allowance for Housing..it is extra money the military gives you for rent and stuff and the amount you get is based on the area you live in..some areas you get alot more and others alot less depending on the average pricing of what rent is in that area.
leftover 04-01-2007, 10:09 PM We get a BAH based on what part of the state we live in..... There's no bases for NG or anything.... We just have our Camp where they all drill at, there's a PX and that's about it.. No houses...
Jennygirl 04-01-2007, 10:39 PM We live in PPV, but they take the BAH like its our rent.
DakotaCowgirl 04-02-2007, 10:23 AM BAH means something like Basic Living Allowince. It is for an apartment/house when you live in the civilian area. If you are living on base that is not privatized, you will not bet BAH. They are paying for most of your expensise. (sorry for the spelling) If you are at a base that is starting to privatize, I believe that you will get some BAH but are expected to pay for everything.
I believe more bases are going to go this way because of the lack of comon respect that many/most residence waste. If you want your house at 80 in the winter and 60 in the summer...you should pay for it.
Jennygirl 04-02-2007, 10:36 AM We live in PPV housing, but we dont pay seperately for water and everything else. They just take the BAH out of the check every month.
s. rosa 04-04-2007, 01:59 AM ok so i'm not following with the privatized housing...they get bah and we then use that to pay for stuff? or do they just automatically use it for the rent etc?
SIMMYBABEZ 04-04-2007, 02:50 AM Im not sure about privatized housing either.
There is only housing on base around here- no one gets BAH because they are getting their rent paid for because they are in military housing.
Dh & I would get BAH if we were off post. But were not. However they are still paying my OHA because of my lease back home. That's only because im "visiting" and living in BEQ's.
leftover 04-04-2007, 06:25 AM I guess you could consider how we are set up, as privatized housing.. It just comes in a seperate check once a month to pay his mortgage.
Jennygirl 04-04-2007, 08:01 AM For our ppv, when we went to sign our lease, he filled out a form to have it taken out of his check every month. The only bills we pay seperately is cable, internet, phone. The BAH covers the rest.
