what in your opinion is the biggest social problem. such as drugs, pornography, guns, etc

give reasons why you believe what you choose is the biggest social problem

Lack of education, morals, faith, religion.

If all those things were solved, then many issues would not exist.

I don't think guns are a problem, it's the people who illegally own them..

i'm gonna go with drugs. they are a huge problem. so many people are negatively affected by drugs-from the people that transport them to the people that sell them-the people that use them and the family members that deal with their loved ones using. so many problems could be avoided if there was no such thing as drugs. and that is only illegal drugs. prescription drugs are just as bad. i am watching my best friend who is in med school become addicted to adarol and there is literally nothing i can do but watch-ive tried-trust me-ugh i get so frusterated with drugs....they ruin lives, families, futures the list is endless....:hairpull :sadeyes :sigh

I definitely agree with Kara....people who lack good moral qualities really make life hard.

I think the lack of moral values is what has contributed to the downfall of our society. That and the lack of parenting. Things were definitely different 10 years ago as 20 and 30 and 40 and 50 years ago. Slowly our society is falling apart and respect, trust, honesty, and integrity seem to be the ones that are going the quickest and without those people aren't going to care how they carry themselves or what they do with their lives.

lack of morals, lack of parenting and first and foremost the downfall of our school systems.

the adderall sorry i didn't spell it right that is used to treat adhd...her dr. gave her a Rx for it because she was having trouble concentrating her senior year of her undergrad. things were still in control then. but since she has been in med school she has been using it more and more and even went to her dr to get a stronger Rx for it and takes it a couple times a day-to top it off it surpresses your appetite so she's lost a lot of weight...she says that she just needs it to focus when she's tired etc. but she's been taking it a lot more frequently then ever before :( i feel so stuck because i don't want her to be addicted to it!! i dont wanta thread jack tho its just scary :(

I wonder if that whole lack of parenting thing can be linked back to the Holocaust/Muslim thread....

Parents are afraid to dicipline their children because it might :quote hurt their self esteem :quote

And at the risk of "offending" their kids with telling the child that they behaved in a way that was WRONG, they choose to ignore it altogether. That way, the child's self esteem can still be developed to it's maximum potential..

Morales and Values. I was just thinking about that the other day. Its sad. It starts with parents. Its our responsiblity to instill that into our kids. Unforunately, parents are LACKING majorily in that department. They care more about social status, career, money, and vanity than what they teach their children. (not all of course, but QUITE a few)

I honestly think the biggest social problem is this HUGE push for self-esteem that makes people think that they are the most important person in the world, makes them selfish and unable to handle stress.

She probably doesn't need it at all, from what I understand, if you actually have ADD or ADHD, it doesn't give you "more energy" it just keeps you calmed down so you can finish a project and you take it daily (some people don't take it on the weekends though if they don't need it).

If you take it and it makes you more energenic and supresses your appetite, then you most likely don't need it. It has "speed"-like effects on those who don't need it.

Her doctor probably gave her prescription by purely trusting what she was saying, most doctors refer you out to a psychologist/psychiatrist and you undergo attention-span activities and other types of testing. People really can get addicted to it. It's very hard to get out of too, since you do so well academically on it. It's such a widespead issue at my college:sadeyes I really hope she gets the help she needs! :hugs :hugs :hugs

drugs = i don't use them but i think certain kinds are no worse than cigs and alcohol and can be used responsibly. but i hate seeing anyone get dependent on a substance, illegal or legal. and i hate the crime associated with illegal drugs.

porn = some porn is okay. people having sex, what's the big deal? but i HATE violent pornography and how easy it is for kids to view it. i hate dehumanising and humiliating porn and bestiality. and porn where the actresses are made up to look really young or the kind that is supposed to depict rape. if people see it often enough they get desensitized to it. and i remember hearing a statistic that before the majority of rapes, the rapist watched violent porn. i just recall that from off the top of my head. so, yeah, i think hardcore porn is having a negative affect on society.

guns = i'd rather be shot than beat to death with a rock. if someone is going to kill someone, they're going to do it. gun or no gun.

i think a big problem is bad parenting. people who expect the tv and goverment and schools to raise their kids and blame them when something goes wrong. i hate parents who abuse their kids and parents who never discipline them.

and the way the media glamorizes violence and acting like a thug. that sucks too.

and i wish society treated women better. i know we're treated better than most countries and we have the same rights as men. but just turn on mtv or listen to rap :pukey

and i wish women would help each other instead of tear each other down.

this is a crap post but i'm pretty tired.
