ok, so my home pregnancy tests came back positive, and I know I should find a doctor, but I have no clue where to start or how to go about doing that. We dont have a regular doctor, and we just moved up here a few months ago...... I'm kinda embarassed by the fact that i have no clue what to do or where to go, but if anyone has advice it would be apreciated :blush :blush :)

You need to have a blood test done at the hospital on base. Then you meet with someone, I met with a LT at the Ob/gyn clinic to give you a referral off base!

Good luck!

I don't know why but when I get a blood test it makes it seem *official* even though I already know I am pregnant, haha!:hugs

I never had a blood test, I guess it depends on the clinic...I took a pee test at the medical clinic, they then asked me where I want to recieve my care and I said the hospital. I called them and then made an appointment.

They are like nazis here. I tried to get around the blood test but NOOOOOO they were insisting to get a referral you MUST have one. It took 4 weeks to even get the referral. :rolleyes

Does anybody know about midwives? Are they covered by insurance? I wasnt completely set on having one, but it was just a thought that i had considered

I was told they do not cover them here. I dunno about other areas, but I had wanted a midwife.

In the military usually if you see a Gyno its not the same one everytime. And it more than likely will NOT be your OB. So it really doesnt matter.

Exactly, it took me having to have surgery to see the same ones now!

I didnt read the other responses.

But are you here in Great Lakes? I think I read that. Go into OBGYN on the 11th floor of the naval hospital here in Great Lakes. You can walk in to do a urine test. This confirms pregnancy. Then they will have you have a short consult with a lady there. Then you are referred into town. I highly recommend Lake Forest. GREAT Dr's and hospital there. I went to Westmoorland OBGYN and had both my kids there. We loved them so much we wanted to have both our kiddos here and be done ;)

Then you wait about a week for the referral to go thru and then call the place you chose for an appt. Its pretty easy.

See for me I didnt HAVE to have the blood test. The ONLY reason I got one was my urine was negative even tho I had 4 home positive test. I was very early. And my referral only took a week ;) This was back in June. And the first time I just showed proof of preg when we transferred here in March of 04 and they referred me right out. My referral then only took 1 day

You dont have an actual gyno here in the military. And especially up here. You see your Primary care manager and thats that. For pregnancy they refer you out here into town and for paps and stuff you can do that at the OBGYN clinic but it isnt your actual gyno. You normally only see your primary care physician unless preg or a problem....

I had my blood test done in November of 06 and they said it was a new policy they were implementing.

I didn't have a gyno either and rarely ever seen my PC dr...I Just called my PC's office where I would set up an appt and they gave me a number to call to set up my first visit.,I didnt have a blood test either until I went in for my appt...and they just used the same blood they used for the other tests they do at the beginning..no one asked me if I had blood test or not until I went in to the lab area and the tech asked.

You're here in Great Lakes right? If you go to the OB clinic they can give you a test and then they'll referr you out to an OB right there. You don't even need an Appt. At least I didn't and I know Kristi told me she didn't either. Good Luck.

Really? Ugh, gotta love the way the Navy changes everything all the time.

Call your dr. or if you don't have the number call the appointments number and ask them. They can either make you an appointment or give you the number to call your dr. or the OB clinic. Good Luck. Oh, if you need the number PM me and I'll give it to you. Good Luck.

She should be able to still walk in. Just go into the 11th floor OB and say you need a preg test. They can do the urine and if that pops positive and they want a blood they can call it in right then and there. Thats what they did for me

I dont believe in their "new policys" simply because someone will tell you 1 thing and someone does another. Like my IUD. I got it in 2 weeks ago. I called, told them I knew about them and wanted the Mirena. They said since I had been told about them from lake forest I didnt need the consult. So they made my appt, I got it in, boom. And then they tried telling Brandi not even a week later that she HAD to have the consult no matter what

So I still say just walk in. Worst they will say is you gotta make an appt but I doubt it. I bet if you show up they will do it all right then and there

Do you know how to get to the maingate?

When you leave housing and go up buckely towards the base stay in the left lane. Turn left at that light and take another left at the next light onto the base. Thats hospital side. Go straight and you will see the hospital in front of ya. Park, go in and head up to the 11th floor. OB is there ;) You can walk in anytime

I had my youngest at a civilian hospital in MI and they covered my midwife. You would think they wouldn't have a problem with it since Midwives cost less.

Turn left onto Buckley coming from the Commi. and Nex on Green Bay and follow it til it dead ends, you then turn left again. The first red light you get to is where you want to turn left at again (on your left is the base and on your right is the Metra station). Drive straight til you see a parking lot on your right. You have to turn right down a street to get into it. On one side of the parking lot is a baseball field. On the other is a building. That is medical. McDonald's is also in there. Go in there and when you get to the elevators there should be a sign outside or inside the elevators that says what floor OB is on. I have no idea which floor it is on anymore. I just know there are these double doors you have to pass through and over top them it says OB or something like that. Good Luck and I hope i didn't confuse you too bad. I suck at directions.
