Video: Coyote Wanders Into Quiznos
People at a downtown Chicago Quiznos sandwich shop were stunned to see a coyote walk through the propped-open front door and lay down in a cooler stocked with fruit juice and soda.
A Chicago newspaper said that employees and customers calmly cleared out of the restaurant, though some took the time to finish their sandwiches and snap some cell-phone photos.
Animal control officers took the passive coyote away after about 40 minutes.
The city captures 10 to 15 coyotes every year.
Veterinarians will examine the coyote and, if he is not injured, release him into the wild.

amandalaine 04-04-2007, 10:50 AM I just have this image of it walking down the street like "doot doot doot doot doo...oh...that place looks nice, and it is kinda warm out. Let me go cool off" and just strolls on in. That's just so odd how almost tame acting it was.

AG2Wife 04-04-2007, 11:02 AM I wonder if Quiznos will use him in a commercial
sdshorty 04-04-2007, 11:02 AM I hope the poor little guy was ok :(, he does look a little disoriented
HEIDI 04-04-2007, 11:06 AM Guess he was hungry!!!
Downtown Chicago? That seems so odd. I could see if was a newer development, but Chicago is quite old. I wonder if it was an illegal pet?
amandalaine 04-04-2007, 12:46 PM I was kind of thinking it could be a pet too with how calm it was...
sdshorty 04-04-2007, 12:50 PM Oh if it was a pet that is even more heartbreaking :(, its really upsetting when people think its ok to keep wild animals such as tigers and such as 'pets' when they don't belong in a person's house but out in the wild.
Ashnbri 04-04-2007, 01:01 PM I just saw that on the news...he was so cute! He was sitting infront of the cooler..atleast they will be trying to put him back in the wild rather than hurting him!
gotstabemel 04-04-2007, 04:08 PM wow that would have freaked me out!
sunshyne 04-04-2007, 04:18 PM Downtown Chicago? That seems so odd. I could see if was a newer development, but Chicago is quite old. I wonder if it was an illegal pet?
I was wondering that too :yes He was so cute. I hope he will be ok. I think they said once he is checked out and if he is ok they will release him to the wild....if he was someone's pet he may not know how to care for himself in the wild :sadeyes
Rachael 04-04-2007, 04:19 PM poor guy, he looks hungry!
goldilockz 04-04-2007, 04:19 PM What's a coyote gotta do to get a Sobe around here??

Hopefully if he was a pet, they will figure it out. :(
AshleyJ 04-04-2007, 05:11 PM :lol I can't stop laughing... That's the funniest story I've heard all day. Poor thing... :( At least no one got hurt.
VinnysGirl 04-04-2007, 05:15 PM Poor little guy!! He's so incredibly cute, and a lot of time coyotes are more afraid of people than people think. I know the ones at my Granny's house run away when they see a person, though they like hanging out with the cows when the donkey isn't around! LOL!!
If he was someone's pet I hope the person that had him says something so he doesn't get released. He won't be able to care for himself in the wild so he could go to a zoo or to a preservation sanctuary or something. Poor little guy!!!
miss.p 04-04-2007, 05:48 PM lol. He's a cutie. He looks harmless. I would have given him my sandwich :)
EmeraldEyes 04-04-2007, 08:32 PM He was so cute, that little furry face just melted me. They did say that it was removed w/out incident. My friend is a Chicago cop and he said they were really surprised how tame it was.
christymichelle 04-04-2007, 08:45 PM so what happened to him? did you friend say?
EmeraldEyes 04-04-2007, 08:51 PM so what happened to him? did you friend say?
They're looking into seeing if there is an "owner", you have to have a special per mit to have an exotic animal in the city limits, but a coyote may not fall in those parameters. My friend said that even if someone claims it, they will still put it in a zoo b/c that way it will be properly cared for.

well thats good, he doesnt seem to come across as a wild coyote, imo...so i'm glad he will be in a zoo so he wont have to fend for himself.
~Jess~ 04-04-2007, 09:49 PM Aww he's so cute. He looks little too like he's not full grown. I agree he looks so tame. I really hope someone didn't have him cooped up in a tiny ass apartment like a dog. Poor thing :sadeyes makes my heart melt.
Kaymara 04-04-2007, 10:08 PM I wonder if its the same one we saw here a few months back. It was just wandering along the side of the road. Real lost. Wasnt scared of the cars or people etc...
amandalaine 04-04-2007, 10:11 PM I think even if an owner doesn't come forward, they still need to put it in a zoo or sanctuary, not just release it. The owner might be afraid of getting in trouble for having it, but to me, a coyote that will do something like this doesn't belong in the wild.
EmeraldEyes 04-05-2007, 04:02 AM They released it to a wildlife sanctuary on Wed.
