View Full Version : If your against the war
bunkie 04-04-2007, 02:42 PM will you vote for a candidate that is going to end it? Or will you stick within your party lines?
I am really torn as who to vote for. I am a republican but a hippy thats for sure. I really want someone to clean up the enviroment so that gives me Obama. I also as a former supporter of this war want it over so again that gives me obama. But for the rest of my views it leaves me with mccain. his enviromental policy and stance on the war is not strong enough for me but I feel pulled towards my party.
Anyone else having a dilema on who to vote for?
Very much so. I havent even begun to look into them yet either. This is such a huge turning point in our country... :ohno
VinnysGirl 04-04-2007, 02:45 PM I still have A LOT of research to do when considering my candidate. I probably won't necessarily vote based on party lines, but rather vote based on who I think is bsing the American public the least and who is NOT playing on the juicy topics that are up right now. I'm investigating the deep down policy and what they could do for us other than the mainstream stuff. The war is a hot topic, but you won't be able to make everyone happy with that one, and it's the same with environmental issues, but I want to make sure they can do more than just that when it comes to 4 years! :D
eta: wanted to add... I'm not necessarily against the war, but rather some of the policy and the ways some things are being micromanaged right now :wink
I like many of the Republican candidates, although I am a registered Democrat. However, I will not vote for someone who will not end this war. I tend to be Democratic in my economic and foreign policies, but very conservative in my social policies. So I usually have to think about what I think is more important right now. And right now, our troops coming home is my top priority.
NikkiD 04-04-2007, 02:48 PM I'm not one to get into political debates so I all I will say is that for me, deciding who to vote for is more complicated than basing it on solely on the war. There are many other issues I will consider as well and that is how I will make my decision who to vote for.

Exactly. I agree.
sdshorty 04-04-2007, 02:52 PM My vote for a candidate will not solely depend on their views on war, but other things I consider very important such as their views on education reform, immigration, healthcare, etc.
harrisonsdream 04-04-2007, 02:58 PM steph :) thanks for always saying things better than i can i can usually depend on you.
i will research the candidates but i will most likely vote within the rep. party unless i can find a very very good reason not to
harrisonsdream 04-04-2007, 02:59 PM also wanted to add that any candidate that says that as soon as he becomes pres. he will pull the troops out of iraq is delusional. its a process and it needs to be taken in steps.
that's a whole other debate
bunkie 04-04-2007, 03:04 PM I wanted to clarify this isn't my only issue with choosing a candidate I have done my research but this post IS about the war and how it will sway your decision.
chelsea<3josh 04-04-2007, 03:11 PM i am not a very political person. since db has deployed to iraq again, and i am very against it, however, i support him and all of our troops 100% i am not supportive of our reasons for going there in the first place or for still being there. that said, i have been paying attention to politics much more then in the past, and i tend to be more democratic in some respects but also i agree with a lot of republican things as well. i think in voting for the next president i will for sure vote for someone that is going to end this war. when is enough enough? where do we draw the line? how many troops are we going to let die over there? we can not fight their war for them...we will be there forever and america has too many problems of our own at this point that are being neglected. its frusterating :(
jays_wifeyUSMC 04-04-2007, 03:12 PM SO Far i'm leaning towards Obama only because I heard his speech about the war. He has a good plan far as getting the troops out in a orderly manner. He isn't just standing there saying he's going to pull the troops. He has a good plan and I truely believe he is going to stick with it. And in my opioion I think the push for the war is slowly dying down far as supporters because nobody knows what we are fighting for anymore. Oil?.....
spikyfeline 04-04-2007, 03:18 PM I'm voteing for any one who will end this damned war it's another vietnam
Ashnbri 04-04-2007, 03:37 PM The war is a big decision on who I will vote for..I will vote for someone who has something smarter to say other than "we want them out in 08" I want someone who has a plan to get them out without just pulling out or who has a plan to make the situation better rather than worse by just pulling out.
bunkie 04-04-2007, 04:06 PM great view points ladies. I am still pulling hard left towards Obama but that little itch for McCain is still there :lol
spikyfeline 04-04-2007, 04:20 PM I like Obama but.....if Gulliani goes I have to say I'll vote republican..........this is my first election and I'm so excited
miss.p 04-04-2007, 05:41 PM Obama for me.
Traci 04-04-2007, 06:12 PM I am a registered republican and the republican will get my vote. I am in no way for pulling everyone out at once. I feel it will cause more bloodshed then it will prevent. I want everyone home safe but I also want this taken care of so no one has to go back. Not to start a debate but I support Bush 100%. IMO
harrisonsdream 04-04-2007, 06:15 PM traci :yes
EmeraldEyes 04-04-2007, 08:28 PM I'm more of an independent than anything else, so in the past I have voted for who I think will do the right thing. I voted republican in WI for sen Mark Green, then he got to wash. and totally screwed us. The 2004 election was the only time I have ever voted a straight ticket-democrat. I don't know abt this election. Are the republicans shying away from Bush b/c they are really upset w/ him, or are they trying to save their butts?? If I had to make a choice right now, it would be Obama, that could change, I need to wait and see.

thats cool IMO. I was a full bush supporter but now I am straying far far away from him. I think he needs to keep his hands off and let the military take care of things, then maybe this wouldn't be such a disaster.
Elizabeth 04-05-2007, 10:44 AM I won't vote on someone's war policies alone, but someone with a real plan will peak my interest. I'm sick of hearing stupid politicians just saying pull out! It doesn't work that way. The military should decide how things work, not politicians, and that is the way Bush is going.
I will probably always vote republican.
