Has anyone's SO gone to school while they were active duty? Did they take online classes or classes on basE? How does that work? Can they take classes while deployed?

My neighbors husband (a finance marine) takes his college classes online. He doesn't have hard long hours or anything so its easy for him. If it were MY husband he would never have the time. Especially on deployment, he is combat arms so hes always on the front lines with little use of a computer. I think it depends a lot on your job but if you have the time you can defentially do it online. :)

I went to classes (100% FREE tuition? HELL YEAH) and have friends that did. The classes are usually at the high schools on base, with a few that meet at local colleges.

My dh takes online classes. He works 12-14 hours a night for 6 days in a row and then 3 days off. So that means we don't see him much well we see him he's just busy online...HAHA But if it means that makes him closer to being an officer then I'm ok with that :)

Bill is finishing his BA right now. He has been working on it for a couple of years, and he's almost done :D. He was taking classes at the college on base (Vincennes University), and he's taking online classes thru AMU. He's doing two classes on line right now.

As far as being deployed and taking classes, that's something your dh will have to look into. It's possible to take online classes, if he has a laptop with him.

My dh is working on his BA right now. When he checked into his command they said that he has to leave with some sort of a degee. So he goes to class everyday from 11am-noon then has his normal hour lunch. If they are going to let him do it and support him, he is all for it!!

My husband took classes online on sea duty as well as shore duty. It's why he stayed in so he could get his degree. ;)

My husband got his bachelors and Masters degree while on active duty. He took classes online, at the school and school sites, and on the boat (ODU). We only had to pay for one masters class because he was over his limit per year, and he was pushing to get done. So, his education was almost completely free except his books!

When DH was home he was able to take online classes and a couple on base, but only had time for one at a time and barely had time for that.

My dh just finished his MS while on shore duty, he didn't work on it while he was at sea because he said its to hard and the internet on ships is to unreliable because you have to log in pretty much daily and if the internt is down for a long period of time he would get dropped from class so he waited til he was on shore to do it.

Some schools offer interactive classes on the boat through a satellite. My husband would go to a room on the boat, and would actually watch the lecture through a television. These classes that he took were through ODU, and he had to send his homework through email.

ODU is where he started his Master's program but finished it at Wayland Baptist University at Honolulu.

My dh is taking his last class now to get a BS from SIUC. He goes to classes every other weekend and takes online classes. Also it is an accelerated program I believe it has only taken him 16 months

They offer classes on the ships I know that..I think when they are on the boat they can sign up for them and then just meet in a room at certian times.

Mine just finish grad school last year while he was on shore duty. Didn't have to pay a thing. He did most of this work on line then had class a few weekends out of the month at the college. The last two weeks, I think he had to be in class. His work let him off for that.

My dh took classes while we were overseas. He would go to his classes during lunch hour or at night. Since he's been back on a ship he has not had time to take any and he doesn't like the online classes.

My dh takes classes online right now at Embry Riddle Aeronautical Univ., and he also has credits he earned through Navy training. They can take classes on the ship too, just a matter of if they have the time to do it.

Bryan has taken an online course via Thomas Edison University Online. TE was great about converting his A school and powerschool into actual credits. ODU is doing the same for him as well.

My hubs is deployed to Iraq and is making time to take classes online at AMU. They are really flexible and cooperative, especially during deployment!

Dh is currently working on his BS. He is enrolled at ECSU. He's taking two classes right now, one online and one at the school. He got his Associates degree while he was on sea duty. He plans to CLEP out of some of his courses so he can take a semester off. So far we have only had to pay for his books. The navy pays for so many credits and then he uses the Top up program to cover the rest.

My DH is finishing his BS right now, he has 2 classes left. He took a few on the ship and the others on line. He just finished 4 classes at the same time which was very tough for him but got A's in all of them. It's alot to keep up with but he's ready to get finished.
