View Full Version : Going overseas for deployment Dr. K 04-11-2007, 09:59 AM When you ladies head overseas for you or your SO to be stationed there... what do you guys do about cell phones/plans and also about working overseas in your profession?? Jo 04-11-2007, 10:19 AM Cell phones can either be put on hold or cancelled without penalty with a set of orders. I called Sprint and asked because we are getting ready to discuss orders very soon, and I also wanted to know. Sprint kept telling me that they would put our phones on hold for when we got back stateside, and I finally said, "If I'm not interested in keeping the phones, will you cancel without penalty?" He told me that they would. It seemed like he didn't want me to know that I could cancel services with our orders. I guess they just want to keep their customers, but we are stuck in our contracts until we die because we always have changes to our phones-so this would be the perfect opportunity to get out of it without any costs! :wink Sorry for rambling! :giggle I would probably just take the opportunity to not work and enjoy the country that I was in or you could possibly work on the base as a GS employee depending on your job. SIMMYBABEZ 04-11-2007, 10:30 AM Over here most working spouses, find jobs on base. There are always places for those spots, however not many work in the economy because they can't speak german. As for cell phones- easy to disconnect if you have orders. And easy to get with your ID card. I have t-mobile, & BASE. Same goes with internet- it's easy to get aswell. Just seen some people posting that they are getting overseas orders... and I was just curious. :) Legs 04-11-2007, 09:49 PM In Japan a LOT of the wives taugh English and made bank. My good friend had an American cooking class once a month for 4 hours on a Sunday and had 4 Japanese women over to learn how to do things like chicken casseroles, etc and she made $400 a month. Yeah, they each paid $100. My daughter did modeling while we were in Japan, she was a baby, and made some pretty good money. The only pain in the butt was the traveling all over the place and the long hours of the actual shoot. |
