View Full Version : What classes do you have to take? RockstarMom 12-06-2005, 05:06 PM To be an ultrasound tech? Do you have to take the general classes? Can you take any of them from home? Any info please :D Callie 12-06-2005, 05:08 PM I have a friend that is going for that and I believe that it is a program, but I do believe that you have to take a few basics like comp 1 and algebra Callie 12-06-2005, 05:08 PM You can probably take them via distant learning. RockstarMom 12-06-2005, 05:20 PM That's what I was hoping to do. I really want to learn something so I can atleast be hireable when I want to get a jobby-job. I'm hireable with what I have, but I don't want to do what I've been doing... :hehe Make sense? Jenny_J 12-06-2005, 05:37 PM I don't know, but my friends husband does that and he makes baaannnkk!!! Chevy_Gurl 12-06-2005, 05:45 PM Look into Grossmont College. They have some awesome medical courses that dont take too long and I believe they have one for that route. Can't remember though. Brandi 12-06-2005, 06:01 PM If you get a regular degree (associates or what not), then you need the general classes. If you go to a trade school, you just go through their condensed program, which I think lasts about 9-14 months. Here are some links that might help with giving you some info on general requirements and such: http://www.allalliedhealthschools.com/faqs/sonographer.php http://www.allalliedhealthschools.com/featured/sonography-schools.php Hope that helps! :D Bex 12-06-2005, 06:09 PM not sure, but that would be such a cool job to have!! RockstarMom 12-06-2005, 07:36 PM My mom was training for it at one point, but she's also an RN and really, I don't want to be an RN right now...eeeew, blood Brandi 12-06-2005, 07:40 PM My mom was training for it at one point, but she's also an RN and really, I don't want to be an RN right now...eeeew, blood Want me to show you my C Section tape? Bex 12-06-2005, 10:10 PM lol i was like that too -- i used to be really into watching those doctor shows and what not and when i was a kid and had to get stitches in my foot, i made them put a mirror down there so i could watch.... now the sight of blood makes me wanna :puke bluemiles 12-06-2005, 10:47 PM I believe you have to become a radiologist tech first. That is what my sister did and then specialized in vascular studies. Her friend did the same and specialized in ultrasounds. andrea 12-06-2005, 11:23 PM I know A LOT about ultrasound schools. I even shadowed an ultrasound tech for a day. I was going to get a degree in Sonography, but the school ended up being a little too far away from where we lived. All the schools that offer Ultrasound as a degree are different. But, there is no way you can get your entire degree online, because more then half of the schooling revolves around clinicals at actual hospitals. Some schools (like George Washington) require a degree in radiology first. But the school I was going to go to was just a communmity college, and the program was for an AAS degree (3 years full time). You would probably need a few general eds (check out the website I provided below). And I would watch out about just searching for schools online because many are shady. I recommend going to your local hospital and asking the ultrasound techs there where they got their degrees. I know there is a website devoted to ligit ultrasound schools, but I don't remember what the website was. There are actually not that many schools that offer it as a degree. This is an accredited school, (and where I was going to go), its a VERY good school, they even do their clinicals at John Hopkins. http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/dms/ familyof4 12-06-2005, 11:23 PM My sister-in law is one, and let me tell you they are sitting really pretty right now, she is making so much money!! Also I do think that you have to be a radiologist before you can become a ultrasound tech.. that's what she had to do anyways..~ |
