How would you go about finding out if your dh's command has a family support group/family readiness group and/or ombudsman? Are FSG/FRG's pretty much only for ship and other commands that deploy (i.e. not shore duty commands)? I am so confused as to what FRG/FSG's and ombudsman do and who does/doesn't have them. Any info you have would be great...thanks!

FSG or FRG=meetings for enlisted spouses that give you information of things going on and camaraderie between other spouses on the boat/or within the command. It's not only for the deployed sailor's families, but for everyone that wants to join.

Ombudsman=liaison between the command and the FSG/spouses. This is someone who you would go to if you had an emergency because she has direct contact with the CMC/Captain of the boat/or command. She will offer information that is given out at the command level, and present it to you through emails or at meetings.

You can also call the Family Service Center, and ask who you would contact for your husband command or ship. They could put you in touch with the ombudsman, and she would give you the information.

:yes

Jo is right. I was the FSG Coordinator for my husband's ship when we were in SD. Myself and the other FSG Coodinator worked closely with the Ombudsman. We would plan all the events, meetings, halfway parties, and homecomings. I would also have spouses and family members calling me at all hours, since our Ombudsman was...well....a complete flake :suspect

I really enjoyed being a FSG Coordinator :happy

Our command's FRG is for everyone. "Leave your loved one's rank at the door." It might be because we're a relatively small command. All I know is that the CO wants to get as many loved ones as possible involved.

Thanks ladies. I have no idea if one even exists but wanted to check it out to see if I am missing anything and/or perhaps to contribute. LOL I guess I had better figure out the exact name of his command...I assume its not just "San Diego"....roflmao. It was so much easier on the ship!

Your dh should be able to find out from his command the contact info for your ombudsman and FRG/FSG.
