Well it's almost time to pick orders and it looks like there is nothing for San Diego. Actually let me take that back, there's one for SD.

If you had to pick out of these, where would you go and why?

1. Japan
2. Guam
3. Hawaii
4. Washington
5. Great Lakes
6. Texas

These are the ones that came up more than four times on the list.

I'm already leaning towards Hawaii. Who knows if it'll be available when the time actually comes. :(

**I'd make this a poll but I have to find out how.** :teehee

I say great lakes or washington. We were in hawaii and trust me, its not all that you would think it is. I only recommend it for vacations!

I would say Great Lakes, I like the cold, my family is 5 hours away from there, I actually LOVED it up there! We were stationed in Corpus Christi, Tx for 2 years and absolutely HATED it there!!

1. Washington-no time change, still semi close to family.
2. Texas- family and friends near.
3. Great Lakes-family is close by.

We have only been station in San Diego, so I have no "lived there" experience.

Cuz my DH said that that would be a fun place for him to work lol. Just going by what he says about it (we will probably be there by next year). Washington because its BEAUTIFUL and I LOVE it!!

great lakes or washington. i loved our orders we had at great lakes and the hours were super skate. i wouldnt reccomend going there if it is RDC though. you might as well have them on deployment. washington is just beautiful and i hope after the next shore duty we will get back out there!

I have a friend who's hubby got stationed up there for RDC and she says it was the worst experience ever that's why I'm a little apprehensive about going up there.

1. Japan
2. Guam
3. Hawaii
4. Washington
5. Great Lakes
6. Texas

Of those choices I would say
5. Great Lakes-because it is close to home and we need the change of pace.

1. Japan
2. Guam
3. Hawaii--these three would be really cool, for the new culture and such.

6. Texas-I am tossed on this one. I hear lots of bad things but good thing too.

4. Washington_ I hate rain

We have only been station in San Diego, so I have no "lived there" experience.

I'm in the same boat. My hubby's been stationed all over the place (Japan, Washington, Virginia, etc) but we never had to go because he always ended up back in San Diego within 9 - 12 months.

So I have no experience of living somewhere else.

I would say HI. I'm from Puerto Rico and HI is kinda like that (small island, tropical, sight views) so that would be the closet that would feel like "home"
Other than that probably Guam cause is another island. Out of those the other ones doesn't really seem apealing to me.

I would originally say Texas since I am a die-hard Texas fan...however if there is a chance to get stationed in Corpus I would say no. Corpus is nice to visit but I would HATE living there.

So that being said, I would say Washington.

My aunt lived in Guam for years and said it was great if you have older kids that can get involved with stuff. Besides that there isn't much family oriented stuff and it is all bars and whore houses.
Great Lakes - Too cold for me...it snows a lot in Illinois and I HATE that.
Hawaii - great to vacation not so great to live there from what I have heard.
Japan- we were going to volunteer to go to Japan if DH's ship had gone over there. I think it would be an amazing experience but at the same time I am not sure I would want that hassle of moving everything over there and so forth.

So, I would say Washington.

Great Lakes or TX, that way were closer to our families....

I want to stay in the states but if this trend continues we'll be in Japan and I don't know if that's good or bad.

For me it would be Hawaii or Washington. Hawaii only because almost all our family is over there. Washington because it's the closer place to Hawaii if we wanted to go visit. :)

Hawaii. I'd love to go and I've got some family there.

Japan (just because we want to go back to Yokosuka).

We are in Great Lakes right now, and while the hours are great they are pulling people left and right for IA. My husband was pulled and will go to Iraq for a year, that is the downside of it. He is not RDC either, he is an instructor.

With that said, I LOVE it here in Great Lakes. :yes

any of the last 4 for different reasons.

Hawaii - I'd stay here forever.
Guam - again, tropical islands are my thing

I suppose if I had to rank the rest -
Japan
Washington (assuming you mean DC)
Texas
Great Lakes

None of those last ones appeal to me at all.

Thats really hard to pick :thinking

With the kids & dogs, I am starting to think it would be easier if we never moved from here!!

But that aside I would pick
1. Japan-I would LOVE to go overseas
2. Hawaii-Kids would love it there and going to see all the natural wonders
3. Washington-Close to family

The rest would be fine just because I am up for anything new and different but those are my top 3

WASHiNGTON. i hear its beautiful, just a little rainy sometimes. i know a lot of people who loved it and we were also thinking of going there, but were gonna choose europe after san digeo. [[were in SD now]]

ive heard from a LOTTA people that have been stationed in hawaii and they hated it and hated the weather. and housing. the only good thing about it is going on vacation there during the "good" seasonal weather.

I'm in Hawaii but I would say Washignton first because I have heard awesome things about it and Hawaii second...

Guam ,because you can make money . second would probably be texas, because I think it would be fun.

I would say Washington. It's an area I think I'd really like. I love the rain, so I think I'd be okay w/ that.

Washington

I would pick Japan or Hawaii. Going somewhere for 3 years that is out of the country is a once in a lifetime experience.

Sarah

Also, if you really really really love the rain, and gloomy weather 9 mos out of the year, then Washington is where you want to be.

Hawaii because I live here and I love it yet I do get island fever often. Although, for a lot of people, Hawaii is more of a place to take a vacation and not live but it really depends on the person. I could live here forever, most of my family is out here and this is the only other place I've lived besides San Diego.

Besides Hawaii, I'd say Guam or Japan. Something different and it's not every day you can live in either place for 3 years.

Guam ,because you can make money.

I might be a little dense this morning (still waking up) but why is that? Are we not taxed out there?

Dh is army, but if he was navy it would be great lakes. It's right between both families and I personally like having four complete seasons.

I would say Washington! But then again that is the only other place I have been other then here in Japan...and trust me you DON'T WANT JAPAN! lol Well at least where we are... (Sasebo) it's very small here, not much to do, and a lot of things are ass backwards here.
I hope you get whichever one you want. Good luck to you.

Washinton (state?) because it is gorgeous up there and i love the northern west coast lots to see and do if you love nature plus Canada is close by sort of.
Japan because we have been there before and I really enjoyed it Yokosuka is a great base really close to Yokohama and Tokyo.

Brandi
04-20-2007, 09:58 PM
I'd say Yokosuka (I would not want to go to Sasebo), Guam or Hawaii. Guam or Yoko would be my first two picks though. I was totally against going to both of them until I actually did research and I actually REALLY want to go now.

Do not go to Great Lakes :no We've been here for three years and I'll tell ya that even though his hours are "Decent" USUALLY- the weather SUCKS (think cold, snow, ice, wind and did I mention COLd for about 9 months every year!). We typically only have about 3 months of decent enough weather to go outside. It's just miserable. Maybe it's ok if you're used to it but it's been HELL on us and the kids. We're all so ready for a little decent weather.

There isn't shit to do up here. Seriously. When I thought about moving to Chicago, I thought we'd have a ton to do. There really is NOT a lot to do. Chicago is SO overrated. About the only thing this place is good for is corporate CEO's and what not. There aren't many kid friendly activities to do at all.

AND I know everyone has a chance at being sent to Iraq but they are pulling LOTS and LOTS of people from up here. So, that's another thing to think about. All these people come up here thinking yay for shore duty but then they end up doing an IA or two...

If you're a true homebody... and I do mean a real homebody (I used to think I didn't mind hanging out at the house), this place might be for you. but if you ever want to get out of the house to do anything like go for walks, take kids to the park, ride with your windows down, etc... you're not going to be happy here.

Everyone tried to tell me how miserable it is and I just wouldn't listen. I insisted that I wanted snow and cold since I had never been out of the south. Well, I got more than my fair share and I am ready to LEAVE. I have never in my life been this fat and depressed. This place has truly been toxic for us :sick

So, did I mention I'd take Japan or Guam? :D

Depending on the base I would pick Washington. We loved living there and would go back in a heartbeat! Anything you could imagine is within a two hour drive. There are the mountains, deserts, the ocean, a rain forest, big city living and small town living. Yep I'm a Wa fan :lmao
