Df told me that he was told by the army last week that deployments are being extended to 36 months? Has anyone heard this? It just sounds totally outrageous. Don't freak, I have no idea how accurate it is, just wondering if anyone else heard this too...

Um deployments are now 15 months instead of 12. That's what i have heard.

I highly doubt 36 months. They would need to give out so much leave.

Yeah thats what I thought. But deployments for firefighters were already 15 months before this, according to him. :shrug It seems so ridiculous I'm not worrying about anything like that unless he has orders in his hands.

I know they extended tours to 15 months. If they extended to 36 months, they would have to give more R&R and all the extra money you get while deployed would make the defense budget go through the roof. Did he maybe misunderstand?

18 months is about as long as I've ever heard.

My hubber's is the same way there is no telling him anything. The longest I have heard is 15 month's. Could he be talking about an independent tour? I feel for you if that is what he is telling you. The Navy sent my husband to Diego Garcia for 12 months and he got follow on orders for another 12 months at GITMO. It is very frustrating!

I think 36 is wrong. UNless you are very high ranking, and what you do is very classified. Like your hubby was special forces or something like that.

That will not happen. I work very close with the command group here at Ft. Riley, and there has been absolutely no talk...i'm sure it would cause quite a stir. I can tell you almost certainly that that is not in the works.

Gates' announcement last week that the 12 months is being extended to 15 months for active duty tours is planned as temporary, until further notice, but the goal is to get back to 12-month tours someday.

Troops are already getting $1,000 extra pay for each tour that lasts beyond the one year.

The new policy relates to those who have their rest time between tours shortened. In the case of active duty, the standard is supposed to be 12 months deployed and 24 months at home station, a 36-month cycle in all. In the case of Guard and Reserves it is supposed to be one-year mobilized and 5 years demobilized. So the new policy is to give active troops one day off for each month they are deployed over 12 of 36 consecutive months. For Guard and Reserve it would be one day for each month deployed over 12 months of a 72-month period.

It increases to two days a month and four days a month when other thresholds are reached.

I can say, that I know that any deployment over 24 months would fall under the catagory of a "full mobilization" which would require congress to declare a state of national emergency.. Meaning-- congress would have to declare war..

Right now we are in a "partial mobilization"... Less then 24 months..

Full Mobilization Congress must declare that a state of national emergency exists to call up all forces, including Army Reserve and Army National Guard units, Individual Ready Reserve, Standby Reserve and members of the Retired Reserve, and the resources required for their support. The duration is the length of the emergency plus six months.

I just wish they would tell them if they are staying or going home. They seem to keep them limbo, which keeps us at home in the same position.

Yes I do believe that is true. I have a friend in the ANG, Army National Guard and he said that 3 month extension only applys to the active army and not the ANG.

Our extensions are indeed seperate.. DH's extension came back in January..

I guess I am going to have to wait until he tells me what is happening. Which he says will probably be 90 days before his scheduled time to leave.
It seems that everything I read says that the National Guard aren't included but..... :hairout
