Do your children have godparents? If so, why? (religious reasons, personal reasons) Who are they- family or friends?
I'm asking because I've honestly never heard of them until I married my DH. Everyone in his family has godparents due to religious beliefs. They pick only family members though, which is strange to me. My Dh is going to be the godfather of our new baby niece soon. They are doing it at the christening this weekend. I'm just confused about it.

I pretty much gave the title of Godmother to my best friend for my baby when it's born. I didn't do anything official though. It's for personal reasons, and she is just about the most important person in my life. She is great with kids too so I know I made the right choice. ;)

I as well as both my sisters have god parents. We are Catholic which is why we have them. Miss K doesn't.

I have Godparents since my parents are Catholic. My children do not, since we're not religious.

Morissa will be baptized next Easter, and we are in the process of deciding who her GodParents will be. She will have a voice in our decision.

Both my children have godparents since we are Catholic. DS's Godparents are friends. DD's are one of DH's cousins & her husband.
I did not grow up in a religious family but I still had "Godparents." They were my mom's bestfriend & her SO. When we joined the Catholic Church, I asked my MIL to be my Godmother. DH's Godfather is one of his good friends.
I have Godparents because I'm Catholic. They guided me in my Faith as I was growing up. I don't really talk to them anymore, but they'll always be my Godparents.
I can't wait to be a Godmother, I hope someone chooses me. My sister will, most likely.

I don't want to talk about my children's godparents. The whole situation just really irks me. If you want to know though PM me. I just don't want to publiclly post about it.

My kids both have godparents but were not christened but dedicated. I was raised catholic and I have them so it is just something I am use to. DD godparents are my dh's cousin he is close to and an Uncle he has that we both love to death. DS godfather is my BIL and my Aunt is his godmother.

I'm godmother to my bf younger son, but due to religious beliefs, we have decided to not have dd baptized after she's born. Even if I did, dh won't attend and I won't do it behind his back. We'll teach her abt all religions and let her decide for herself.

Our son is going to have my DH's best friend and wife as his godparents. (although my DH hasn't talked to them about it yet..I know they will accept) lol DH didn't make a big deal about it but since I had godparents (close family friends) I want our son to have them as well..so it isn't really for religious reasons just because I had them and want our son to as well.
