_Krystyn_ 04-18-2007, 09:51 PM Our new dog has BAD gas...... We feed him Ol' Roy and we feed him a cup or two a day.......does anyone know anything we can do to make it not so bad or at least less frequent? Or am I doomed to have a stinky dog?? :lmao
SezzySue 04-18-2007, 09:56 PM my dog will start to smell like tuna some days. Give her some plain yogurt (about a cup a day) if she also has poopie problems.

Try different foods? (just make sure you don't up and switch foods, gotta integrate it slowly, mixed with the original food)

Thats what he had originally. His old owners fed him Iams. We buy Ol' Roy cus it's cheaper, but I have been mixing it with some of his old food. Maybe thats whats doin it......
Berkley 04-18-2007, 10:56 PM Yep change his food and it should clear it up. But that being said some dogs are just farters. Charlie can clear a room he doesn't do it often but somedays it's like MAN!!!
Jennie 04-18-2007, 10:58 PM Yep, switching foods can cause major gas! Some dogs just can't eat certain foods.

Thats what i was goint to say. I have a oxer and they can have BAD gas sometimes. I mix a few spoons of yougert with his dry food and helps alot.
Laurie119 04-18-2007, 11:36 PM Also, lower quality foods may give dogs more gas because they contain more grain (fillers) than the higher quality foods do.

In my dogs case we tried all kinds of better quality foods and it just made the gas worse so then we gave him pedigree dry and he did not react to that so that is what he has been on for 6 years. The vet even told us if it works go with it.:lol
navyaowife2005 04-18-2007, 11:53 PM Our dog has bad gas too, we will just be watching tv on the couch and all of a sudden we smell this horrible smell and we ask each other if we did it and we say no and then we are like I think the dog did it. I hear her sometimes, she always seems to pass gas when she jumps up onto the couch to get some extra lift. :lol
andreacc 04-18-2007, 11:58 PM What kind of dog?

I don't know how groomers can pop those things. EWWWWW. Yuck! Thank god boxers don't need that done.
EmeraldEyes 04-19-2007, 12:58 AM My pit can clear a room as well. We've tried switching foods, but have come to the conclusion that we have a farter. She's smart too. She was sitting on the kitchen floor one day and let one rip-it was loud. I started laughing, so now I think she does it on purpose.

Its just so DISGUSTING!! Ive almost thrown up from that smell. Its so wrong!!:pukey
USNFFG52 04-19-2007, 03:12 AM We feed our Husky Purina Pro Plan. he has not had any gas issues since we started him on that food but they are right, the lower quality food will cause some gas issues. its bad when I get accused for the dog farting by my wife when she was home, lol. our Husky is a typical male. he belches as he walks by me and then farts when he lays next to me and OMG talk about horrible.........dont light a match!
VinnysGirl 04-19-2007, 03:45 AM Sophie can fart with the best of them! It's horrible. Once we switched her to Purina One Puppy for now will be adult soon, she got A LOT better about her farting, but when she eats something she shouldn't..... PHEW!!!!! I wanna run and hide!!! If she AND Dh get going sometimes I have to leave the room or even go outside it can get so bad... :no
cricketswife 04-19-2007, 06:22 AM when buddy gets stinky like that, it's time for his anal glands to get done. and as far as the groomers doing it...yeah it sucks, it's not the most pleasent smell, and ya have to turn your face away "just in case" but i do it right in the tub where it instantly gets washed away and the dog's butt gets a super dosage of odor eliminating shampoo.
lol, my boss tells customers who ask him how we do it that it's like popping a zit.

I would be careful because Ol'Roy is one of the foods that has been recalled.
Miss B Hav'n 04-21-2007, 10:14 PM I would speak with your vet and consider making a food change. Ol Roy is a brand that gets consistent failing "grades" when it comes to quality of food. Many times the gas is caused by a reaction to a particular ingredient and it can take quite a bit of time to figure out which ingredient (since you will want to make the change of food gradually and then give the dog's system time on just the new food to see if you can notice any difference in the gas, especially since the change of food itself can cause a gas flare up) and find a food that works best.
SIMMYBABEZ 04-21-2007, 10:17 PM Oh i can't think of the one that is great for dogs, it's expensive- but the vet recommends it.. um sorry- i might have to get back to you on the name.
Also- Pal & Pedigree is usually good. I've always fed my dogs PAL and they have never had problems. It was only when I fed them some fancy stuff out of a little tin things went abit askew.
Miss B Hav'n 04-21-2007, 10:22 PM Are you only feeding the kibble? Do you give any canned food or treats? If you use treats what kind are you using? Sometimes it is the treats that cause the problems. Also, are you sure no one else (ie DH, kids, etc) is slipping the pupster food on the sly?
