View Full Version : Schedules?
Callie 04-19-2007, 02:29 PM Do you have your child or children on a schedule? bedtime, etc.. If not did your child put his/herself on a schedule anyway?
I have Ava on a schedule to an extent. We have our bedtime ritual which consist of around 7pm I give her a bath, and afterwards I feed her a bottle, and she is usually asleep by 8 or 8:30 everynight. She also wakes up around the same time every morning between 5am and 6am. Other than that I do not have her on any other type of schedule. I feed her on demand, and so far she sleeps during the day when she wants to, but basically she has put herself on a schedule as to when she eats and takes a nap. It is usually the same time everyday. I personally think that schedules are a good thing. I was just wondering what you thought
MelissaMc424 04-19-2007, 02:31 PM Yes, we have a schedule.. it's been interrupted thanks to the move, but we're trying to get back into our routine now...
Dinner is at 6 everynight, bath at 7, bedtime at 8:30... We've been on that schedule for a long time.. Then again, she started sleeping through the night at 2 1/2 months old, and she'll be 3 in August..
Erika 04-19-2007, 02:32 PM I tried too, but it never worked out for me. I always ended up having something coming up and the schedule would just get moved around so I gave up.
Lilithdrff 04-19-2007, 02:34 PM Only schedule we keep is bedtime (9 p.m.) and wake up time (8 a.m. at the latest). We don't have set breakfast/lunch/dinner/bath/etc. times.
The youngest still takes one nap a day, that's usually at around 1p.m. but I didn't put her on that schedule, she put herself on it, lol.
**Liz** 04-19-2007, 02:39 PM My kids have been on a schedule off and on. Except for they are on OPPOSITE schedules. Gabe wakes up at 7 am most mornings, M-Th I get him on the bus at 7:40 and go back to bed til 9:30. I wake up, shower, get dressed, get a little housework done, Laney wakes up at 11 most mornings, Gabe gets home from school at 12:15, we have lunch, then nothing until about 1:30 when Gabe goes down for his "rest-time," Laney plays on the floor for a while, then she usually wants to go down at 2. Gabe wakes up around 2:30 and while Laney is still napping, we either play a game or go outside and play until Laney wakes up at 3:30. At 3:30, I usually let the kids play independently while I do more housework/cleaning until about 4:30. Josh gets home by about 4:30, so if I have errands that's when I go and do them. (I love USPS' mail at home service lol that's about the only errand I can't run after 4:30, but if I have to go to the post office, I'll do it on Josh's days off.) While I'm out running around, I usually have meat or whatever for dinner defrosting or cooking (depending on what it is.) Dinner is at 5:30 or 6 usually and then we watch tv or whatever for a couple hours between 7 and 10. Bed-time for Gabe is anywhere between 7 and 10. It definitely varies depending on the night and if he has school in the mornings or not. Laney on the other hand is my night owl child and she usually doesn't go down until sometime between midnight and two. By around midnight, most nights, Josh goes to bed at midnight, so that's my time to relax and watch tv, or get online, or do whatever. Sadly enough that MIGHT be study time for me in September when I start school (although I'm really hoping to get Laney down to 10 for bedtime, so that I'm not so tired in the morning and can study during the mornings while Gabe's in school.)
bunkie 04-19-2007, 02:42 PM Yes my kids are on a schedule. Frankly I just dont understand the idea of NOT having a child on a schedule. Kids thrive and grow in predictability and stability. We follow our schedule to a T for the most part as a result we never have cranky kids.

:yes
Callie 04-19-2007, 02:47 PM ITA Ava gets MAD if she's not in the tub by at least 7:05! LOL! Not joking. If she is asleep she will wake up at 7:00 for her bath. lol!
When he was an infant...no way! He set his own and I just went with it. As he has gotten older, we tend to do the same thing at the same time. Like he is up by 9:00. He lays down for a nap at noon. Night time is by 10:00. We are just a go with the flow kinda of family.
Victoria 04-19-2007, 03:06 PM Yep....we sure do have a schedule!!!
Ethan is almost always in bed by 9pm. Right now he's been getting up at 9am, a lil later than he used to, but I think being in a dark room has helped...LOL!!!Also he naps around 12:30pm.
define 04-19-2007, 03:46 PM We have a schedule too and have had one since she was young. It's definitely helped but you can tell when she's thrown off from her schedule.
Kristin 04-19-2007, 04:43 PM We have a routine but not a schedule.
Casey 04-20-2007, 12:11 AM OOOOOOH YEAH we have a schedule!!! That was such a fight with my mom! :rolleyes she believes that babies should be fed on demand and should never ever fuss! :rolleyes But finally we decided to tell her to stick it cuz she was our daughter and we were going to raise her how WE want to!! (DH and her dont have that great of a relationship so much anymore cuz of all the fights) But he is ok with it i guess. But she does SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better on a schedule!
She gets up about 730-830am, eats (cereal now) then bottle (about 4-6 oz depending on how much cereal she eats) then takes a shower with mommy, then plays for about an hour or so, then back to bed for about 30 mins, then plays then eats, then back to bed for about 1-2 hours, then plays and plays and plays, then eats, then plays then plays then naps, then eats dinner (cereal and bottle) then back to bed! She is easy! :giggle
amandalaine 04-20-2007, 01:37 AM Besides waking up in the morning, Preston basically has his own schedule. His needs with food and sleep change so much in these early months, I found it hard to make a schedule and stick with it. We usually wake up around 7 to get Kayla up and ready for school, and then when we get home around 8:30 he'll usually take a nap. Then he does another nap around 12 or 1 and then another later around 5 or 6. I put him down for bed around 8, right before I put Kayla to sleep. He does everything bedsides waking up in the morning and going to bed at night on his own time though.
KevzQueen 04-20-2007, 03:19 AM Colby and Kaitlyn have a schedule. We don't give Jace a bath at the exact same time all the time. He eats when he's hungry and sleeps when he's tired. Sometimes it seems as if he's fighting it and that is when he gets pissy, but it doesn't happen often. I've recently started putting him down while he's still awake. Sometimes he falls asleep while I'm humming to him. I mostly play it by ear.
Does Ava sleep all night?
I_Love_my_marine 04-20-2007, 10:11 AM My children are on a schedule as well. My DD wakes up at 7 my DS gets up around 7:30. They are hungry when the get up so right off the bat they get breakfast. They play till 12:00. They eat lunch and at 1:00-1:30 they both lay down for nap time. The get up around 3:30 and eat a snack. They play until 6:00 and we eat dinner.
