I got through and get rid of what I don't need before I move. After that I consolidate toys what do they really play with what do they have doubles of. After that I use storage boxes. Depending on the age of the child I've found having a bookcase in half the closet or just those storage containers that have drawers that slide out will do and I put toys in there. Be sure to utilize under the bed storage you can chose hard rolling containers or soft containers. I use both I put winter clothes or summer clothes depending on the time of the year. I have a rule any toy coming in means one toy coming out. It helps keep the kids in the mindset of donating and giving to others and it keeps the pile of toys they are bored with and don't play with nearly non existent.
For you're stuff that you know you won't use (for us it was a fridge and various other items) keep in mind that after you move you can call TMO and they will come pick up you're items and store them for you. Keep in mind it is not like a typical storage where you can come and go as you please from my understanding you cannot access those items until you move again. But if they are big furniture items that you know won't fit in the new house then you won't need them till you move anyway also any keepsake items such as old baby clothes that you are keeping can go into that storage to save you space and allow you to hang on to them.
For stuffed animals I reccomend a hanging corner mesh shelf I have that in my daughters room for all of her carebears. It saves space and she can still take them down to play with them. For a child with more then one will allow you can put multiple shelves on the wall.

Any other tips feel free to ask or to PM :)
Hope this helps :)
I use the plastic containers w/lids to put clothes and stuff I don't need anymore and put them under the beds, I must have at least 8 of them.

What keeps me sane is going through stuff once a week and donating it. I also use a lot of baskets to keep stuff contained.

dh and i both went through and donated probably 25 lawn size garbage bags of stuff to good will and kcm (just a christian donation place). we were really concerned about getting a small house too. we've got a decent sized house. we have a ton of storage space in our home though

My museum experience is telling me to make up lists of what I have in each box. To be really organized number the boxes and make lists. You just have to remember to update the lists when you move stuff. Good luck!

I was going to suggest something similar. I keep a basket downstairs and one upstairs. Every evening I do a quick run through and find things upstairs that need to be downstairs and visa versa. That way I can go around and put everything back in its home or toss it or put it out in the garage for a yardsale/goodwill trip without wasting energy (although all that running might do some good, :lol) It keeps excess clutter to a minimum and makes me feel much more organized and "on top" of the house.

:thumbsup :agree I do this too. I have been moving from dorm room, to home, and soon to an apartment and after hearing all the military horror stories of moving and shit getting broken I decided the 22 gallon buckets were a great investment! I see it as, you can label and number them and only the BIG stuff doesn't fit. I hope you get it organized! I know how good it feels to know where everything is :D

Before we moved into this house I went through everything and donated clothes that we didn't need anymore and got rid of some of the kids clothes to people I know that use their sizes, I threw broken toys away and got rid of toys they didn't want or play with anymore and then I got those big totes at wal mart and I have all the toys organized in those and stacked in the closets and I get them out when they want them but only 1 at a time and that helps them from getting all their stuff mixed up. And the same for clothes we put back that aren't in season etc. and shoes that we don't also wear.

There's a site I use to help keep me on top of organization and the daily domestic things I should do but "forget" to.
http://organizedhome.com/ The articles, tip section, and forums are all great.
For cheap children's room storage, This article has some awesome ideas
