A Homewood man was arrested yesterday on charges that he shot and killed his grandfather last month.

Pittsburgh homicide detectives said Keith Caldwell, 19, had a dispute with his grandfather, Nate Caldwell, 79. The younger Caldwell was about to be evicted from his grandfather's home on Frankstown Avenue.

Medics were called to the home March 9 after Nate Caldwell's daughter found him mortally wounded at the residence.

Mr. Caldwell had been shot once in the head as he sat in a chair in his first-floor bedroom, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:08 p.m., shortly after police and medics arrived.

At 2 p.m. yesterday police, armed with an arrest warrant, apprehended Keith Caldwell at a residence on Holland Street in Wilkinsburg.

Detectives said they found that the basement door to the Caldwell home had been forced open.

A pistol, believed to have been used in the shooting, was found in the back yard near the basement door.

He is being held without bail in the Allegheny County Jail, pending a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. April 27.
