Ok, so I got a wild hair up my butt and went and got another cat. Lovey and her have done nothing but growl and hiss at each other. How do I get them to keep the peace? I know with dogs you just let them fight it out. Do you do that with cats too? I know since I brought Chloe home she hasn't been as friendly. Could she be stressed out and just reacting to all that? Help please!! TIA

First, keep them separated and give them each their own things. Introduce them slowly to each other and give them each equal attention and treats. After about 2 days of slowly introducing them, just allow/force them to interact. It will take a few weeks for them to really get along.

I agree with Jennifer. You may just have a cat who doesnt like other cats, it happens all the time with animals. Slow is the key word!

They were both in homes with mulitple cats, so I don't understand how they can't like other cats. I'm just baffled.

Because if you take a cat or any animal out of a situation where there were multiple cats then they become protective of their space, kwim?

Maybe your first cat is trying to tell the other im in charge here.

They are both going to be very territorial-the old cat protecting his turf and the new one declaring his turf. It takes a long time but it can work-even my grumpy snob of a cat is friendly to my purby!

Feel free to PM me with any questions pertaining to cats. I've gotten a lot of experience in the last few months.

I could type out a nice long response but this article sums it all up nicely and I only have to link it, lol. It is one we use when a foster goes to a new home with existing cats in residence.
