So last night this wonderful lady showed us a house that we liked. They do allow pets, but we talked about dog breeds that we cant have. I was surprised that she said dobermans...And not only can we not have a dog on that list, we cant even have a dog that has a 1/4 of one of those dogs mixed in. I told my DH it was a good thing that we didnt adopt a pit mix because we would be homeless.

I guess I just think its ashame that bad pet owners of certain breeds ruin everything for everyone.

There are rules in some cities about certain breeds..... or maybe her homeowners insurance doesn't cover certain incidents with certain breeds???

We dont own any of those breeds, but our friends who breed and show dobes cant even bring their animals over.

But we finally are going to see a house today that charges a higher cat deposit.

It's true that some homeowners/ renters insurance won't insure you with certain breeds or you have to pay a high penalty for a bite clause. It's sad, but something to think about when getting that family pet. It does suck because not all "bad" breeds are bad dogs.

Our privitized military housing is even not allowing boxers! BOXERS! These are one of the BEST family breeds. It makes me sick. Ignorance is at the head of these stupid rules. And it drives me NUTS!

Our American Bulldog was on one person's "Aggressive breed list" and they just said that if we showed them our dog and let them meet her and showed them she wasn't aggressive they would rent to us. Our big problem though is finding places to rent that don't have weight limits.

Where is that housing so we can make sure NEVER to get stationed there...that is INSANE! I have never met a mean Boxer. Hyper, overbearing, hard headed YES...dangerous NO. My lab/whippet mix is more agressive than my two Boxers.

This is one "dangerous" dog breed list...Boxers are on there though.

Pit bull
Akita (Japanese and American)
Rottweiler
Chow Chow
Wolf-hybrid
Presa Canario
Boerboel
Boerboel
Dingo
Boxer
American Staffordshire Terrier !
Argentinian Fighting Dog
Mastiff
German Shepherd
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Great Dane
Siberan Husky
Doberman Pinscher
Alaskan Malamute
Dogs that have any of the breeds listed in their lineage

Our insurance company (Farmers) lists Pits, Doberman, German Shepards, Chows and Akitas.

ROFL a husky? Seriously, my god. A Great Dane? Oh lord. The people that make these lists up have serious bias towards particular breeds because that list doesn't make a damn lick of sense! I can "understand" some of the breeds through sterotyping due to severe ignorance but the rest have me scratching my head. :mumble

Its Ft. Bliss, and my neighbor has a boxer. You just have to make sure they dont catch you. I have a Husky/Australian Shepherd mix. Shes not on the list but on that list you posted. :no One lady was caught by housing (GMH) and told to get rid of the dog or she was to be out in 30 days. She moved out.

I've been having the hardest time getting a rental b/c of the pet thing and my dog is very small and sweet... She's been living w/ my mom for over a yr now and my mom is ready for her to come back and live w/ me... I wish there was a way that the dogs could go through some kind of test or something before you rent to give em all a chance b/c as of now my lease is almost over and I have no clue where I'm moving to. :shrug

Geez, what a PITA! We have a Golden Retriever, so we've never had a problem with our homeowner's insurance, but our renters have a shepard/lab/mixed dog and we didn't even ask them for a pet deposit let alone deny renting to them.

I refuse to rent when we can buy and I refuse to pay exhorbent amounts of cash just b/c we have a dog and 2 cats. Landlords don't ask for a "child" deposit in case the kids destroy some part of the residence, so I don't see a reason to do the same for pets.
