DB said that I can't write him at BCT in anything but black ink and no stickers. I was wondering if that means no cards (like hallmark type cards) as well or if I have to stick to notebook paper and a pen. Anyone know?

I've never heard of that, either. It sounds like some rumor or something.

I haven't heard of that either...I know DH got annoyed with me when I wrote him in green ink lol becasue it was harder for him to sneek read it at night! I also sent DH hallmark type cards and I know his mom and grandfather did all the time. I am not sure if it is a new rule or rumor though. but I would go ahead with what he said as to not get him in trouble. Tell him to tell you if he notice's other people getting colorful mail or cards and if they don't get yelled at then send away!

When Jon was at Basic, he asked me to write in green ink because that is their PLT color and it was easier for the person sorting out the mail. As for the stickers...I would put stickers on the envelopes like hearts and lips and the drill sergent made Jon do pushups and stuff for it. It's sooo stupid! God forbid he actually has someone that loves him back home...grrr. I'm ok now...lol.

Anything that gets you noticed, like hearts and stickers on the outside of the envelope, is going to mean pushups for your SO! And don't send a package, my mom sent me one when I was in basic, and I had to get on my knees, crawl into the RDC's office, open it in front of them to make sure there was no contraband, and crawl out. But I got letters and cards, mail is so important in boot camp, so write a lot!! How much longer does he have?

That is pretty terrible! I can't believe they made you crawl! He just left a week ago so he still has 8 weeks left. His parents haven't even gotten his address yet. :( I'm not a big sticker girl, so that wouldn't be an issue, but I wanted to send him a really cute hallmark card with his letter.

Thanks for your input ladies! I really appreciate it.

just make sure the envelopes aren't obvious or get attention drawn to it. you can send cards i sent them to dh, you can send them newspaper clippings, etc any flat mail

I was also told just don't write on the outside of the envelopes (besides the address) when my BF was at Basic. But I could send cards.
Everything in the envelope had to be hand written though. No newspaper clippings or things printed off the internet, if someone saw them they would make him throw them away. He always wanted me to include pictures in his letters also.

I think so long as it's not on the outside of the envelope, you're fine.

I used to put lipsticked kisses at the bottom of letters, and there never seemed to be a complaint about those. ;)

And no contraband, of course.

I think I might've sent DB a picture in BC, I honestly can't remember whether it was then or later. But I think I did. And that wasn't a problem either (obviously, explicit pictures would be of the bad).

:dunno

Good luck with the card!

Yeah...i sent Jon a box with moleskin, tissues, chapstick...random stuff like that...and i made the mistake by putting it in a pink shoe box. BAD IDEA! They smoked him so bad for that. I didn't really have anything else to put it in so...at least he got to keep the stuff though.

i sent tons and tons of cards, letters written in different colors, stickers galore to my ex when he was in BCT. They never said anything to him about only getting letters written in black. Maybe hes afraid he'd get made fun of if you write to him in colored ink and send things other than regular letters :o)

when i was in bct, if you had anything and I mean ANYTHING that drew attention to you, then you were getting smoked... I got letters from a friend that had a last name that sounded alot like Freaky... so I got smoked on a regular basis, even after i got hurt...they would make me hold a rifle over my head till my arms gave out before i could get my mail...
