The other issue you have to consider is that many of the "breeds" currently being peddled are not actual breeds at all but rather mutts given glorified/cutsey "breed" names by those peddling them (ie the pugle, bug, etc) Jennygirl 05-02-2007, 10:43 PM Ok foundation stock dogs in the AKC are not AKC breeds yet but are on the list to become them. Foundation stock means that the there are xamount of dogs in the breed that founding "members". My CAPT's Leonberger is a foundation stock dog for the AKC. You need to search the UKC and such. Different countries have tons of dogs that we just dont have here as AKC breeds. Plus they have different dog catagories. PvtWinkiesgirl 05-03-2007, 04:33 PM Oh, there are easily hundreds of breeds all over the world that the AKC doesnt recognize. I would recommend surfing some rare breed websites, like http://www.arba.org/ , The American Rare Breed Association. edit: This website gives a list of FCI recognized breeds, the FCI is a worldwide dog club that the AKC falls under, but recognizes established breeds from all over the world. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/fcibreeds.htm |
