had a chance to adopt a dog that might have some health issues for the rest of their lives, would you do it?

Honestly, it depends on what the issues were.

Yes as long as I had the finances to deal with the health issues. I took my cat in when she was a kitten, and she had some health issues. They are mostly resolved now, thank God. But I knew I had the money to support her, so it wasn't an issue.

I agree.

My parents have a dog they found on the side of the road, she had been thrown out the window as a puppy, and has no bladder control and some brain damage but my Mom could not see putting her down because of it, but it HAS been expensive for them.

i actually have. i have adopted a blind cat once. then the cat i have know was born w/twisty legs. she has broken her leg twice(she's 4yrs old) and i have paid a lot for both times. I knew what i was getting into when i got her. i love her w/all my heart and she is worth it. i really need to get a pic of her. she's the CUTEST thing on this earth! lol b/c her legs are not fully grown she is super small. she doesnt even weight a full pound. she's healthy, but she can't grow very large.

Yes I would aslong as he wasn't dying. I couldn't buy a dog that was just going to die. It would break my heart.

honestly, i don't know. i was just thinking about this the other day. i looked at the application for the ridgeback rescue and one of the questions was "would you accept a dog with health issues" and i thought to myself "no" but i suppose it would depend on the issue.

and completely off topic, one of their questions was "would you acept a ridgeback without a ridge" and i thought to myself "no! that's the whole point" i suppose that's a bad way to think of it though.

We *might* have the option soon, and I was wondering.

I dunno... if it were me, in your situation, with a baby on the way AND other pets already, I'd probably not do it.... maybe I'm heartless but IMO that's a lot to have on your plate.

No you arent heartless but you are right. The bug was planted in my head and I cant think about anything else today. I dont want to talk about it on here, but he would make a wonderful addition to our family. But it wont be for a while.

I dont think I could do it just b/c I have so many medical problems right now that I couldnt take on something that did too. If I was healthy I would without a doubt if I could afford it.

My dog that my parents an I adopted has cronic ear infections because her previous ownerd didnt take care of them, an she also is dog agressive. ( We figured that out after we got her home) Its something that the Humaine Society might not have adopted her out if they knew about this little problem. Its been an expensive road, but we love her. (even my dad an he doesnt like dogs)
