JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 2-year-old Jacksonville boy drowned in his family's swimming pool Tuesday morning after police say he wandered into the fenced area.

Police said an adult found the boy unconscious in the pool at a home on Meadowsweet Lane in the Hickory Creek subdivision off Girvin Road.

Rescuers were called, and the boy was given CPR. He was taken to Baptist Medical Center, where he died.

Police said the backyard pool was legally fenced and no foul play is suspected.

How could a 2 year old get in if it was fenced properly?

:dunno Why was a 2 year old left alone wheter it was outside or not? They should've had it better locked up..like an alarm if the door was to open, or mabye the back door locked or something! Poor baby!

I don't know how this child got in to the fenced in area BUT we had a child in our area climb over the walled off pool area to get into the pool area. So I don't even let my four year old play outside at my sister's house with out someone back there just in case he decides to climb the wall and get into her pool. Not everyone thinks of that though.

I think some people let their young kids play alone outside if they think it is safe and they can see them. Like if the back yard is fenced in, I know my in laws let my oldest play in their back yard unsupervised because their is nothing out there and they have a big fence (no pool). They can also see him from the living room so they think that is safe. (I do not agree with them and my son's are not allowed to visit them alone.) They did that when when was just turned three.

Just thinking of some reasons why the little child was playing outside alone. Also it only takes a moment for a small child to drown. That is why it is so important to be aware of what your small children are doing and where they are at all times.

We will NEVER have a pool as long as we have small children, I don't care how secure it is. I hear of this happening WAY too often. This happened to one of my aunt's best friends. She walked in the house, the little girl was right behind her, then I guess the little girl who was about 3 or 4 went back outside really quickly and was dead within minutes before the mom even realized that the girl had gone back out there. They had all of the latest guards and security of their pool, but accidents always happen anyways.

I don't think having a pool is worth your child's life and this seems to happen very frequently :no
