I havent heard of this. Read on Lotus Birth here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Birth) I have heard of not cutting the cord until to stop beating, but I havent heard of the lotus birth before.

Whats your take?

:lmao I have been involved in this debate on another board.

The baby feels no pain when the cord is cut.

Letting the remaining blood go into the baby is fine, but you can't do it if your going to donate/bank the blood.

It's not going to matter if you cut right away or let it stop, millions of babies are fine every year. This is a very super granola kind of thing.

Ummmm....not my cup of tea. What is the purpose it still be attached? I mean, it doesn't serve any purpose after the baby is born.

Um.....don't animals usually chew the cord from their newborn babies??? Why would you let that thing lay around next to your baby for 6-7 days???? GROSS!

From LotusBirth.com:

The cut umbilical cords allow for the risk of infections and take from 8 days to 2 weeks to heal. Unclamped cords and placenta are off, generally, in three days time, if the placenta and cord are given proper airing, and no risk of navel hernias, or blood infections were reported by the early pioneers using this method of care, or those doing this practice, currently.

Looks like there is actually LESS of a chance of infection.

I dunno...personally, to each their own. I support waiting until after the placenta has stopped pulsating to clamp though. I support Lotus birthing.

Umm no thanks. It's bad enough you have to keep their naval super clean until the small part falls off. I couldn't imagine carrying around the placenta until it feel off on it's own.

I want to know what people think the benefits are.

We waited until the cord stopped pulsing so that Anthony got all the cord blood that he could, but personally, after just seeing the placenta, I could not imagine carrying that thing around for a week. ICK!

Actually if Necrotizing fasciitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrotizing_fasciitis) comes into contact with the placenta it can become a serious problem. And the bacteria can be found everywhere.

Do people not realize that animals in the wild even CHEW the cord if there is one? It's not meant to stay attached...... This Lotus birth thing is VERY unnatural. In essence, the blood in the placenta is "dead blood" shortly after a birth. It hasn't pumped through a heart in several hours....

I know some people support this but that is absolutely gross :sick There is soooo much room for infections and I agree it's very UNNATURAL if you ask me.
