DH and I were talking about cloth diapers last night and I was wondering how much they cost. Are they any more trouble than using disposable? Do they absorb very well? I had more questions but I can't think of any right now, any more info you have on them please throw it out there.

My question would be, what do you do when you arent home and you have dirty diapers. Do you throw them out of something?

usually they have like little portable diaper bags or something like that, that you can carry around. dh and i are going to combo diaper, cloth for home and short trips. disposable for much longer trips

Depending on what "method" you go with, they can be rather cheap (12 for about $8) or rather pricy ($18 for one....all the way up to as high as you can imagine....yes, I saw one sell once for over $200....NO LIE!!)

They aren't any more trouble for me than disposables. They really have come a long way. They make all-in-ones now (AIO's) and you use them almost exactly like disposables....velcro and all!!

As for absorbancy, most of the time you still have to change infants every 2 hours, but for overnights and such, you just use a doubler....basically an insert so that there is more cloth there to absorb.

My question would be, what do you do when you arent home and you have dirty diapers. Do you throw them out of something?

Exactly. They do make specific bags that are waterproof, but I just use Ziplocs. Some people just reuse the plastic bags that you get from the grocery store....

thanks for the info, i'll check out the website that was mentioned, maybe i can convince dh to try cloth with this baby, especially since it can save us a lot of money.

But what do you do about the smell, do the diaper bags hold the smell?

babies poop. it smells.... you'll have to get used to it ;)

if you're out and can't find a garbage can, you'll have to carry it with you as well ;)

There really isn't a smell. Poop you flush. The diaper bags that you have while you are out either hold the smell or like me, you use a Ziploc and there is no smell.
