It's called bill H.R.3302.. Please give some responses on this...

Title: To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to prevent excessive concentration of ownership of the nation's media outlets, to restore fairness in broadcasting, and to foster and promote localism, diversity, and competition in the media.

Media Ownership Reform Act of 2005 - Amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require a broadcast licensee to afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views on issues of public importance, consistent with the rules and policies of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in effect on January 1, 1987.

Prohibits the FCC from permitting any license for a commercial television broadcast station to be granted, transferred, or assigned to any party if such action would result in that party owning, operating, or controlling, or having a cognizable interest in: (1) stations which have an aggregate national audience reach exceeding 25 percent; or (2) such station and a cable television system whose service area overlaps with such commercial station's predicted Grade B contour.

Mmmkay.. So what it means is that basically what is happening is a bunch of closet socialistic politicians are trying to pass a bill that will enable the FCC to essentially shut down any radio program that has gone over a certain number of listeners or popularity. Specifically 25%.

Thus endangering the big guys (Savage, Hannity, O'Reily and Limbaugh). They try to claim that it's cornering the market, but the very people who vouch for the Bill of Rights and the freedoms we enjoy in this country are being attacked by the maker of this bill (Congressman Maurice Hinchey {D-NY} Rep.).

To make it simpler, if 25% of all the people on the internet were on Branid's site, the FCC would now have the authority to shut her down because she would have a monopoly..

I'm sure that this would never pass in a million years.. It would get vetoed quicker then anything. But it just seems like an attempt for the politicians to control the airwaves that contain words that speak out against them..

What a dirty way to play politics..

It doesn't look like it's talking about media listenership, it is talking about media ownership. And I agree that it should be illegal for one media company to own a majority of the media outlets because then the public won't get all sides of an issue. They will only get the opinions of the person who owns the company. And with so many of the media companies now having ties to certain political parties an agendas, that could be a VERY dangerous thing. I don't want the United States media to turn into Iraqi TV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_TV).
