I had to take DD to the ER early Friday morning because she was running an temp of 102.7
Earlier when I was putting her down, around 10:00, I noticed that she felt a little warm. When I took her temp, it was 102.1, so I gave her some Motrin and put her to bed. She seemed fine, not fussy, not cranky, nothing. So when she woke up later that night, I was surprised by her fever.

My mom and sister gave her a bath to kinda bring her temp down, but I decided to take her to ER anyways. By the time we got there (maybe 45 minutes), her temp had spiked to 105! Needless to say it scared the crap outta me. They gave her some more Motrin and her temp came down to about 102.
This has happened before, once, about 4 months ago....and they never did find out what caused her fever (it was around 104 degrees then). The doctor this time mentioned that, although she did look like she had another ear infection, she might have a UTI.

They wanted to take a urine sample, but being that they had already stuck her 3 times in an attempt to get enough blood for a culture and a CBC count, I put my foot down and told them I would follow-up with her regular doctor.

My question is has anyone ever had an experience with a toddler and a UTI?
I'm getting kinda nervous, because if it is a UTI, that means she's had it for about 6 months now, and now I feel like a bad mom. :sadeyes

my sister used to get them all of the time when she was little, like toddler and younger. not to scare you but they found out that one of her kidneys was only working about 50% or less. she had surgery when she was really little, i don't remember exactly what it was for. then when she was a junior in high school she was having back problems (scoliosis) and had an mri for her back, and they ACCIDENTLY caught that one of her kidneys was enlarged...the one that didn't work fully. turns out it could have burst and she could have died but they caught it and she had to have it removed.

so deffinently have them check everything out to make sure everything is working right. im sorry she's so miserable :( hang in there :hugs

THey say its very common for girls to get them. My DD was in the ER Monday before last with a high temp and they had to catheterize her TWICE (which really pissed me off) b/c he thought it was a UTI. Turned out that it wasn't so they did all of that for nothing.

But again, I don't think I'd be worried about it now, she got antibiotics right? There's no way you would've known so quit calling yourself a bad mommy!!!!

I hear they're common with little girls who take bubble baths.
I hope she feels better soon!!!

Not your fault, and you're not a bad mommy. It's so hard to catch things like that. At least now she'll get treated and be ok :)

UTIs are common in little girls, there are so many reasons she may have one and it's in no way your fault. :hugs

My dd had problems with them. She was hospitalized at 14 months. They found out her one kidney was enlarged and she had renal reflux. She had surgery when she was 5 to correct the reflux cause it was causing things to back up into her kidneys. When they did the surgery they found out she had a duplicating system on the one kidney so they had to do reconstructive surgery on her bladder and kidney. She was on antibiotics from 14 months to 5 years old everyday to prevent UTI and kidney infections. It was hell.

I've heard the same thing as Victoria, but my daughter hasn't had them yet.

I hope your daughter feels better soon!
