So my ex was up for (is it called advancement for officers too?) O-4 this spring and was getting all of his paperwork done last winter. I'm really curious to see how things turned out, but we haven't talked in a couple of months. I figured I'd shoot out a few questions to you girls instead...

- What is this type of moving up in rank called?
- When do they find out about it (I just remember something about this spring to need to the paperwork in by or something)?
- Since it has to be approved by congress (right?), do you know where I can find the publication of the list of these promotions? They're public record, right?

I just kind of want to know if I should be proud of him without actually having to talk to him. :blush I know, I'm a :loser, but he's a good guy and still care to see him do well. Afterall, his career was his #1 and only priority in life anyway, so he certainly better be kicking ass.

I can ask DH when he gets home but he may not know.

It depends what branch he's in. My DH is Army and for his branch (Military Intelligence) his branch manager said only 6 people who were up for it last year didn't get it - three for DUI, two for cheating on their wives and one for gambling on a DOD computer. In the Army, you also now need less time in than you used to - it used to be 11 years, now it is 10 and they think it will drop to 9 soon.

It's Navy, I'm afraid. I'm not worried so much about whether or not he made it, just more like, curious to see if there is a way to find out and/or the timeframe that the results are expected, so I can ask him about it after he's actually found out rather than awkwardly check in while he's still waiting.

Usually when DH makes "rank" it's on his anniversary of the graduation from OCS. His paperwork has to be in on a certain time frame, and then IF he's selected he's promoted on the anniversary date.

They are public record and are announced whenever there is a promotion, but I don't know how to look them up outside the military. I know DH got his promotion notice and is now "rank select" instead of "rank" until his anniversary in November.

If that's the case, then I think he should know by now. But yeah, I guess since I'm not sure where the public record is, I'll have to simply decide if its worth talking to him again to find out. Thank you!

DH just Gooled his intergration message for November and found it. He did First Name Last Name, branch of service on Google. But he will look further at work on Monday too.

Things are good here! I'm seeing someone new, which is kinda exciting, although I'm still unsure if I'm ready to move on. Work is same-old, but I'm hoping to liven up my summer with some traveling. I'd love to be able to take the summer off! :D Are you guys going on any trips?

Glad to hear your dipping in the pool again...you may not feel ready to move on yet, but it's good your out there! Well since I found myself taking the summer off unexpectedly, LOL, we are just gonna hang around here. I am planning on taking the kids to the pool, the beach, and any place else wet and outside! We have a pool for them, but they like the base one with the slide. We are going to Sea World next Saturday with our neighbors so that will be fun. We are just going to do some little "mini" vacations.

This year's Navy 04 list is floating around. I don't know if it's out in NavAdmin form yet, but it will be soon if not.

The list doesn't seem to have been officially released, but I would expect it possibly before COB today. You'll have to look under what his designator was.

If you thought he was up last year, it would also be available under last year's NavAdmins, which you can get to from the same site.

I believe the "list" must have come out yesterday cause my dh got 0-4. Although, as far as explaining much I am NO help, whatsoever. We've been together over 6 years and I still don't understand it all (the Navy rank/career paths, etc). I just know he was telling me about himself and some others we know. I am sure I could get him to look up your ex's name, since you are from his hometown and a Sox fan. haha

Okay, so I'm checking out that site. This is I think where the list came from that used to come up in google searched when he made LT a few years ago, so this makes sense.

I checked out the two lists they have there, and searched his last name using the webpage find for his last name and didn't see it. Those are the documents I checked out, so if that's the right place for me to be looking, he didn't make it, which is unfortunate for him.
