View Full Version : Does it annoy you when...
fridayheather 06-21-2007, 02:18 AM celebrities give their kids weird names? I know you should be able to name your kid whatever you want but have a little respect for the kid having to live with that name!
One that comes to mind is Jason Lee's kid (he was in Clerks, Chasing Amy, he's the lead in My Name is Earl, etc) and he named his kid Pilot Inspecktor. Why?
Know of any other odd names given out by celebrities to their kids? Am I totally cracky for even being bothered by this? :screwy:lol
armywifecarole 06-21-2007, 02:20 AM Didn't Nicholas Cage name his son something completely crazy? I don't remember what it is though, something to do with superman's name... It just bugs me that people would do that to their kid, I mean come on, these kids are going to be teased relentlessly!
Jennifer 06-21-2007, 02:21 AM It bugs me too. I am a very traditional person when it comes to names(Colleen, Kaitlin, Katherine, Elise, Jeremiah, JOnathon) and weird names drive me battty
navywifetojosh 06-21-2007, 02:25 AM the one i always seem to laugh at is the name Penn Jillette(from penn and teller) names his girl, lol her name is moxie(<----thats not the weird part, this is ----->) CRIME-FIGHTER..LOL :screwy sounds like a super hero name:lol

Thanks, couldn't remember it. Poor kid...
And I think Moxi crime-fighter would be kind of funny. Not something I would do, but it's very super hero-ish
:giggle
Jennie 06-21-2007, 02:46 AM Doesn't annoy me really, it's just like what the hell were you thinking?!

msdarbonne 06-21-2007, 03:02 AM I guess I don't have any room to talk. I named my daughter Piper. I also like Joplin for a girl. And for a boy I liked Lennon and Leeland ( I know I spelled it different). DH won't let me name any future babies any of those names. He's a party pooper!!
chelsea<3josh 06-21-2007, 07:58 AM i really like unique different names. some of the ones listed above are a little odd for my taste...but to each their own. i plan on naming my kids unique names. and for some reason i really like the name apple, but i wouldn't name my child that, i just think it seems cute :dunno
USCGBoxerMom 06-21-2007, 08:00 AM Nah..not anymore than some names my kids friends have. You push that baby out you can name it what ever you want!!!
harrisonsdream 06-21-2007, 08:43 AM it annoys me because i know how horrible it was for me growing up with the name jillian and that was a "weird" name. i mean what is a kid with the name suri going to do. i don't care how prestigious of a school the kid goes too you've got a weird name you will be made fun of

I think Piper is a terrific name! And I have a friend who named his son Zane Lennon (he's a musician, so the name sorta works).
I got a little bit of grief from some people for Lydia's name because it's :quote old-fashioned :quote, but I always said if I ever had a daughter I would name her after my Grammy who helped raise me after my mother died when I was 2.

If it's presitigious enough, they'll all have weird names! :lol
Jillian (spelt Gillian here) is a really popular name in the UK :)
And it's not just celebs - I feel for some of my relatives who have the following names:
Daisy Cain and Maisy Boo (they're sisters!)
Moya (her mum is a fan of Farscape)
Haf (pronounced Hahve)

i like the name daisy lol maisy is a cartoon mouse here in the states. i knew a jillian but spelled with a G in elementary school and even the teachers (subs and new teachers) pronounced it with a hard g like in gate.
MichelleB 06-21-2007, 01:39 PM I don't care what they name their kids, even though some of the names are just off the wall and I wonder where in the world they come up with them.
sunshyne 06-21-2007, 01:42 PM I guess I don't have any room to talk. I named my daughter Piper. I also like Joplin for a girl. And for a boy I liked Lennon and Leeland ( I know I spelled it different). DH won't let me name any future babies any of those names. He's a party pooper!!
I think the name Piper is adorable!!!!

My Best friend just named her son Zane
kittieb 06-21-2007, 01:45 PM LOL i like the name apple XP
its not soooo bad
harrisonsdream 06-21-2007, 01:47 PM apple isn't bad at all
kittieb 06-21-2007, 01:47 PM My mom made a big fuss when i told her i wanted to name my first daughter Alice... :giggle
my younger sister wanted to name her first daughter Hutaru and she thought that was awesome
rosebud* 06-21-2007, 01:51 PM I guess it just depends on the person's definition of off the wall. My two older kids have :quote traditional :quote names, while my youngest has a non-traditional name. Although when i told my mom and sil we were debating on samantha for my youngest, i got the old i don't like that it seems soo wierd. ( that's not her name btw)
Pebbles 06-21-2007, 01:58 PM My parents didn't give any of their kids common names.
I like being different :shake
NavyChiefs_Wife 06-21-2007, 02:41 PM it doesn't bother me, they aren't my kids.
NikkiD 06-21-2007, 05:06 PM Doesn't really annoy me but I do think it is weird. I'm all for unique names but I think some cross the line. Fortunately, those kids that hate their names can change them if they really wanted to.
