I read all kinds of newspapers from the Army and the post. I can't bring myself to read the non-military ones for some reason. This is what I found this morning. I hope it helps to put some minds at ease at least for the next few months until things change again. :thinking
"Today there were reports in the media about possible further extensions of tours of duty in Iraq, based on coverage of Acting Secretary of the Army Geren’s Senate confirmation hearing. Let’s be clear — no one extended here now to 15 months will be extended further. I ask leaders to move quickly to quell potential rumors. Inform your Soldiers and Family Readiness Groups without delay." LT. GEN. RAYMOND ODIERNO - MULTINATIONAL CORPS - IRAQ COMMANDER

Well thats good I guess, I dont really believe it but hopefully thats the truth. They dont want to keep us extended past 15 months because then they need to pay us for it. Just like why they changed the deployment window to 15 instead of 12, because after extending everyone they were shelling out the dough.

Isn't it crappy that they look at the finances as a deciding factor instead of the families? But I bet you're right. If they have increased troops to 156,000 already and they deployed all of them over 12 months...let's see how that would play out just to be hypothetical...
Extension Pay (just the over 12 month part) = $1000 / month (estimate)
Months over 12 in country = 3
Number of soldiers deployed = 156,000
Total $$ in extension only pay = $468,000,000
Keep in mind that doesn't include all of the other pay increases!

Exactly!!! Thats what makes me so freaking furious!! They are willing to let soldiers rot away there for years on end just to save some money.

i really hope they dont pull this second extension crap.i have finally gotten down to a year left of this 15 months and i will be pissed if i have to feel like we havent made any progress.thats sad that im excited to finally be down to a year left! The 15 is already going to be taking a toll on our soldiers mentally and physically and ofcourse all of us thier loved ones. I really really really hope what you find is true and stays true.

It sounds nice but I don't believe it!!! They are alreay telly familys & loved ones over here that it will be longer than 15 months!!! They say bank on 18 months or better!! Just like the day before yesterday I heared our neighbor outside on his back porch talking to his wife telling her something to do with the Army going to extend for 2 years!! If they ever did that....well that's just BULL SHIT!!!!!
