Is there anything that I should know about Army deployments? Are there any major differences from US Navy ones? IS there anywhere that I can go that can help me learn the differences between the two? When he joined the Navy, I had no help, and no one to turn to that could explain to me what to expect. Is there anywhere that I could possibly do that with being an Army wife? I have already started to check out MyArmyLifeToo.com, but I guess that since I'm not living on the post where the other wives of my husband's unit will be, I really kind of feel alone. Is there any advice that they can give?

Whatcha need to know, hon? My DB is Army and is deployed right now. I've also been sent "over there" when I was active, so I might be able to help out.

This site is a good resource for support. :)

I have no clue about the army. I hope you find what you need.

My fiancee is deployed with Tawny's (goldilockz) man. I'm a newb to the military lifestyle, but you can ask away and I shall try to answer for you.

Well I can tell you one thing, its not a 6 or 7 month cruise on a ship thats for sure. With the army world right now chances are 99% he will go to Iraq, if not then its Afghanistan. Depending on his job I could give you an idea of what he would be doing there and how much relative danger he would be in. Some guys go and are always in "the stink" (getting shot at, etc) some guys go and live on the FOB (forward operating base) and never leave. IMO army deployments are the worst because ours are soooooo long. The good news is we get an R&R period sometime during their combat tour so that is something to look forward too. My best advice to you is to keep yourself busy because it helps the days go buy so much faster.

I'm not sure of the differences (except for the fact that deployments for Army are 15 months which is usually less than Navy deployments) since I've never been a Navy wife--just Army.

A lot of it depends on his MOS, his unit, where he is stationed once he is deployed (different posts in Iraq do things differently). Sometimes it doesn't even depend on his MOS. My DH was called up for deployment because they needed a replacement with his MOS to join an already deployed unit in Iraq....he got there and ended up doing infantry instead of his MOS. A LOT of people are being assigned infantry tasks even if that's not what they are fully trained to do.

Another thing to know about Army deployments is that there is always uncertainty. You have to learn how to cope with living moment by moment and never really knowing what is going to happen -- until it happens.

Any other questions, feel free to ask!

Oh yeah, we were told he was going to the Sandbox, he will definitely be in IRAQ. He has already done some time in Afghanistan and IRAQ before, but he was NAVY then. His MOS is 44B, ORD. I don't know much more than that right now. I know one thing, I can't get him to talk to me about this or anything like that, I never have been able to. My hubby doesn't like to think about anything that could be negative. Me, I'm a practical person, so I can talk about anything, good bad or indifferent without being so absolutely moved(boo hoo sarcastic). By the way, I love your tickers and things. How do you guys get those things. Where did you learn to do that, and where did you go to get them? Please advise.
