I'm going to mail off one of those padded manila envelopes to db in Iraq...do you think that needs to have a customs slip and everything or can it be mailed just like a typical letter?
It's not a very big envelope, 6 in. x 9 in. I think and it will be really light.
Thank you!!:)

You shouldn't need a customs form, but the lady at the post office told me that anything outside of a standard size envelope should go through an actual postal employee for postage. I send DF those CD mailer envelopes all the time (6x9 thicker envelope) and they have to mark it first class and usually charge me 75 cents rather than the regular stamp.

I tried to use the self-service machine in the lobby, but when I put in an APO zip code it said I had to see the clerk.

I sent a ram stick to the boat and still needed to do a customs form.

Just call your local post office and ask. Better safe than sorry. I hate return mail.

yup, anything larger than a standard envelope needs one.

Yep, but you should be able to do the smaller form rather than the huge white one.
