View Full Version : Knitting
MichelleB 06-27-2007, 01:03 AM I reeeeeeeallly, reeeaalllly want to learn!
If you know how, how did you learn?
I've thought about getting a book, but I just don't know if I can teach myself. I learn better by watching and seeing someone do it in front of me, then practicing. :shrug
Armylove 06-27-2007, 01:03 AM My friend showed me how to do it in high school. Its super easy, you should just pick a book up at the craft store. I love it. Its so addicting.
MichelleB 06-27-2007, 01:04 AM It's really easy enough to learn from a book? That would be great...it just looked so complicated.
Armylove 06-27-2007, 01:06 AM not really hard IMO, I do screw it up a lot when i dont pay attention.. lol.. but while you are in the craft store, ask if any of them know how and can show you. Its very simply, just a few steps, that you just repeat.
everlong11 06-27-2007, 01:06 AM I cant figure out how to knit either... crocheting is fun too :)
rosebud* 06-27-2007, 03:52 PM maybe it's my crocheting brain, but me and knitting are like oil and water. I just can't handle both needles and the yarn. lol
aubrey 06-27-2007, 04:18 PM A friend taught me (during class) in High School. I love knitting!
BzzzWife 06-27-2007, 06:52 PM my cousin taught me at 12yrs old...and crocheting also
navyaowife2005 06-27-2007, 07:05 PM I only know how to knit on a loom and that is fairly easy. I have made 2 scarfs now. My MIL taught me. :mrgreen
missfefe 08-07-2007, 11:29 PM i have been learning from different books and also there are videos on knittinghelp.com
it is a really great site for learning how.
define 08-08-2007, 01:29 AM My mom tried to teach me, but it didn't happen. :lol
Victoria 08-08-2007, 01:33 AM Once all my HHG's are unpacked, I'll let you borrow the several books I have. I, too, have to learn by watching...hence the reason I don't already know how. :( WAHHHHHH!!!
Lilithdrff 08-08-2007, 01:31 PM I've bee trying to learn from a book, but it just isn't happening, I need to *see* in order to properly learn.
sh4au 08-27-2007, 09:41 PM What kind of tools/stuff do you need to crochet or knit? I've been wanting to make a baby blanket, or booties.. something like that for the baby!! I've never done it either.
lacy+chk 08-27-2007, 09:58 PM maybe it's my crocheting brain, but me and knitting are like oil and water. I just can't handle both needles and the yarn. lol
:agree
I learned from my FMIL, she taught me in a weekend. I can only do one stitch and I can only make a really crappy scarf. But it's fun and passes time. I can't learn from the books, I needed her to teach me in person. Some churches gives lessons a few days a week, maybe you could try to find a place giving lessons! Good luck!!
sandykay 08-27-2007, 10:20 PM My nan taught me when I was like 8. Just keep saying needle in, wool around, needle through sideways and pull off..... in, around, through, off. That's the basic stitch, the others you'll pick up as you go along.
Jekka 08-27-2007, 10:30 PM I've tried it before, but it never stuck with me. I get too frustrated, too easily. lol Good luck with learning it!
infantrywife1991 08-27-2007, 10:51 PM I got my daughter an cdrom and she learned it within 2 hours and she's getting really good and they made it real easy
Valkyrie 08-28-2007, 08:33 AM Try this place, I found it easier to learn by following their knitting videos.

pilotwife 09-05-2007, 07:03 PM or do you still care?? Ha Ha. If you are still wanting to learn to knit, I will teach you/show you how. I live in Va Beach too. I learned by myself because I was bedridden for 6 months about 2 years ago and it was the only thing I could do is teach myself to knit because all my other hobbies I could not do. So, now that I knit all the time, I would be glad to show you, we could meet in a coffe place, book store, whereever. There is actually a knitting group every Monday night at Borders on Laskin Road. I have not been in a LONG time, bad member, I am assuming they still meet there and I can meet you there and show you and maybe it's something you would do on Monday nights. I think they start at 7 pm every monday, in the cafe part of the store. If not, I can still meet you there. Let me know, Lori

sailorsbaby 09-28-2007, 12:02 PM Have you tried the local craft stores? I have a fabric store near me that has all things knitting and crochet as well, and they do teach classes. Try calling around.
USNIwife 09-28-2007, 12:10 PM I want to learn how too.
I won't lie, I'm a little :scared.
I know someone will have to say,,,:tsktsk wrong - try again.
I'll have to try try again :dunno
But, I get bored :irked:tears
Would give me something to do:rolleyes
But really, I could get good at it, if I try :neutral
and than make beautiful blankets for gifts!
bellezzagoffa 09-28-2007, 12:18 PM I bought Knitting for Dummies which is REALLY useful. There are a ton of pictures and stuff. When I got stuck on more complicated stitches I went to my local craft store and they told me about a class they have there a couple times a month. I went asked the teacher a few questions she showed me where I was going wrong and I was on my way to my first cable knit scarf (I am still too scared to try complicated sweaters hehe). If you have the patience and the time it is easy enough to learn on your own.
****Oh and I forgot, the DIY channel has this great show called Knitty-Gritty. Even if you don't get the channel in your cable package you can watch videos from the show on their website. Totally a big help when I think I am making a mess of something.
