Has anyone else read this book?
It was an absolutely difficult read for me, but, so well worth it. I am a different person because of this book.

A fantastic book, VERY well written, VERY hard to read due to content and emotional investment. I also have his two other books about his adolescence and then adulthood.

I read it my freshman year of high school. It was amazing then, and now that I've matured, it's become even more remarkable.

I read it as a senior in highschool and I cried in class while reading it. It also made me sick to my stomach. I read his other two books as well...truly an amazing story.

I read that for one of my child development classes last semester. I really would like to read the rest in his series now. He came to my college a few years back to talk--unfortunately, I didn't know who he was at the time and didn't attend, but my professor was there. She told us that he has a permanent speech impediment because his tongue and throat were so badly burned and destroyed by the Clorox and Ammonia treatment. :sadeyes

It was so incredible for me to see how differently things were handled back then than they would be today. The teachers weren't allowed to say anything, can you imagine? Now, you HAVE to report those things.

I read it a long time ago. It's very sad, and touching. There are two other books that follow it.

I found if very disturbing that nobody helped him. I think that it should be required reading in High School.

I took a class called "The Problem of Evil" this summer and this was one of the books my professor recommended to us (we were only reading fictional evil). I'll probably get it at the library next time I go now that I've been reminded about it.

It made me sick. Not only the cruelty his mother put him through, but the apathy of the rest of his family. I want to read the last two, to find out the rest of the story.

what's it about?
The author was subject to horrible abuse from his mother as a child and basically no one helped him. she called him IT she wouldn't call him by his name nor let anyone else call him by his name either. It's a tough read. I wasn't able to read the others too hard.

I read all of them. As well as the book one of his brothers wrote. It's called 'A brother's journey' and it's by Richard B. Pelzer. Very interesting to see everything from his perspective,

I have read all his books about his life, over and over again. I am so amazed he turned into such a normal productive life. I am amazed that someone, especially a mother, would EVER treat another person, let alone her own son, that way.

and it wasn't even all her kids, just him that's what made me the maddest.

Such a great book. Very hard to get through. I was pregnant with my son when I read it. That was even worse though I think. I have yet to read the other two but I want too. I am still getting over the first and my son is 2.

Okay, so I bought and read "A Child Called It" yesterday and today bought and read the second one and I'm going to get the third one from the library (I'm going on Monday because I've almost read most of the books I got last week). I was absolutely horrified when I read this, I'm really interested in reading how he turned his life around. WTF was up with his mother and father? I hold the father just as much to blame because he was an enabler.

Sometimes I feel bad when I get mad at Lydia and put her in timeout and she cries, I can't even imagine how strong David had to be to make it through his life.

I read this book for a psychology class in college, it was very hard to read in parts. He is an amazing man though for living through all that and coming back to help other children. I want to read the other books he wrote someday as well.

I read this one a long time ago and followed with the others and am finishing A Man Named Dave, probably tomorrow at the doctor's office. I'm going to have to go look for his brother's book though. Thank you for mentioning that one guys!

I first read this book when I was in 10th grade, it was horrible to read, but it had such emotion, I've still never read anything that's had such an impact on me, like that book did.
