I got a question for you all. I know every situation is different, but does anyone have a rough idea of how long it takes your guy to get his papers checked out when he first lands in the U.S. during R+R? My guy is suppose to be leaving on his soon, and said he'll have to check in with some people at the first U.S. airport he lands in to get his leave information dealt with before he can fly to the airport I'll meet him at. So, I was just wondering if there are any experiences with how long a wait you had?

It's just going through customs/passport control just like anyone else has to go through. As soon as he clears customs he should be good to go.
ETA: this is according to my husband. He's been in ten years and taht is what he has dealt with everytime on leave/R&R

He is already signed out on leave when he gets on the aircraft. He just has to clear customs, pick up his baggage and he is out the door.

He will either fly into Atlanta or Dalls (those are the only 2 airports that they fly into the states to orginally). At those two airports they have a special booth/center that will help him. Depending on how many people are in "line" will determine how long it takes. It doesn't take that long, but it may take longer if they are busy. Just like with anything else. Also when they arrive to these airports they will get the rest of their flight info for the rest of the way home.

so just to be clear this is when he arrives at either atlanta or dallas. If that is not his final destination he will continue on pretty much like a civilian the rest of the way. He will continue his flights on his way to you and when he gets off the plane at his final destination he is good to go. He will most liekyl have to contact Rear D just to confirm he has arrived. Although at that point they should have received all the flight info. His 15 days of R&R will begin the next day. The day they fly in and the day they fly out does not count as their 15 days.
Does that make sense?
