NOpe. They can only fly to their home base closest airport, then they have to pay out of pocket to fly elsewhere. THey just changed all the rules

They just pick their final destination and the military will get them there. Somewhere they have to go through customs, usually dallas, new york, or baltimore.

again, according to my hubby

I went through this as the FRG leader, a lot of my wives went home. They told us the military isn't sending anyone anywhere besides their home base. Then they have to pay out of pocket for the rest. Maybe my information was wrong but thats whats happening to all of our guys.

weird.....but then my husband's last unit assembled in the desert and was from every corner of the states. If it's changed, it's relaly recent and or maybe it depends on the unit..gah. I wish they would make these things clear....lol

Yeah since I will be home, I was hoping he could fly into the airport in the city that I am from... I guess I will ask my FRG leader, and try and find out more.

I :dunno about that one though because I know someone who is stationed at Ft. Lewis and for his R&R, he's going to the east coast and doesn't have to pay for anything.

As far as I knew/understood, they would fly you anywhere as long as it was NOT farther than your duty station. If you wanted to go farther than your duty station, that is when you'd have to pay out of pocket.

My husband is stationed in NC and he is flying into the Austin airport. The military will fly you where ever if you are deployed.

so does that mean that once my husband has his R&R, he will have to fly back into germany where he is stationed? he is over there (unaccompanied tour)..and then we would have to pay like the $1500 to get him a plane ticket to the US?

OK I think I can speak in confindence with this.... at least as far as the army goes.

They will fly you ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No charge.

For example my hubby will be home for R&R in about a week and a half. We are stationed in Texas and he is flying into Florida where I'll be meeting him.

He can fly to other countries.. wherever. Trust me I have friends who are meeting their husbands in a different country and having a vacation there.

As far as flying into the states from Iraq they will orginally either fly into Atlanta, GA or Dallas, TX. From there they will fly whever they are scheduled to fly into.

There will be NO extra charge UNLESS the soldier fails to make the proper request to the destination he wants to go.

:) Hope that helps!!

is he in the army? if he is there is NO reason he should pay. When does he come home for R&R? DId he not make arrangements with his command in enough time or something? That just doesn't make sense. They basically ask.. "where are you going for R&R?" and they make it happen.

Yes he is first cav. It doesn't affect him but it did the rest of the other guys. They all got sent back here then had to pay to fly from EP to where ever they were going. I am not kidding you. I sat in the office with the brt commander before they left trying to clear all this crap up. Maybe its just our area the guy is a dick.

hmmm that's strange. Maybe they didn't request and alternate desitnation in time. I can understand if if they didn't make the formal request when it was due. Other than that I have never heard of anything like that before. That stinks for those guys. :(

So do YOU know whether or not they can have destination locations different from the location they are leaving from?
