But when your SO deploys... how do you guys keep your spirits up?

I remember the last time he went out, I knew NOTHING about the military (thank you for all the help)... and finally I met a wife from his boat... and we became "deployment buddies."

It was nice because she gave me the inside scoop (girlfriends weren't allowed on the ombudsman email list)... and we hung out at least once or twice every week.

Even stupid stuff like grocery shopping.... or wandering around the mall... it was fun. And it was nice to not be alone... we could cry, bitch, whine and complain all we wanted. We also got silly and made little charm bracelets with our men's names on them... and paperlink countdowns for when they came home.

Then the night before they got in, we made a paper link for every half hour till they pulled in... and had a construction paper/glittery mess everywhere... hehe

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because they just left again.... so Stacey and I are back in business, haha. Anyone have any fun ideas? :)

:lol Yeah, plan you guys' wedding..that'd be hilarious! If he didn't think you were crazy before...:wink

But seriously..hm....I was pretty boring when Mike was deployed....movies, TV, cooking, shopping. One thing that might be fun to do together is maybe find a really fancy dish or meal that you guys want to learn to make and do that together. Or you could go on "photo shoots" and take pics of each other and your adventures to send to them. Hm. :shrug

I take a lot of pictures, make a lot of recipes that I know he wouldn't eat, find Martha Stewart/Bob Vila type projects for around the house, and write him letters every day. I swear the letters and care packages are what get me through. Plus, who doesn't love shopping even if it IS for Gatorade and Gold Bond Foot Powder?! :giggle

I indulge my inner neurotic clean-freak scorpio in ways that I know would make DB's OCD proud. (We're such a screwed up couple, eh?)

I've packed, unpacked, cleaned my dorm, cleaned my house (three times so far), scrubbed the fridge, scrubbed everything I could find, cleaned the pool table (so I can play pool), got a job, attempted to start reading, indulged my insomnia, and watched more TV than I did all last year.

Basically, I'm getting caught up with everything that I get too busy to do, in the hopes that I'll keep busy enough to keep on trucking. It's working so far. I wanna bake, next, I miss that.

I shop. I plan. I bitch and drink with my friends. I lay on the beach and forget the world.

Pretty much, anything and everything to keep my spirits up. (The cleaning actually makes me happy - I once heard that Messy Scorpios are Depressed Scorpios, and I believe it. At least, for me.)

HAHAHA Dang you Kelsey... don't encourage it... you know how neurotic I can be!!! lol That's too funny.

I wish I could send him care packages... but apparently it's hard to get mail when you're a mile or two under the ocean :P Hehe... last time I kept a journal of all the things in my daily life that I'd normally tell him if he was there. (And no, he never got to read it, lol)

I also learned how to spoil myself... manicure, pedicure... a Clinique makeup binge at Macy's.... (retail therapy, mwahaha). Oh, and I bought myself flowers. Hehehe actually, I guess I was my own boyfriend for a while... LOL...
