View Full Version : toddlers and two pieces
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 07:01 PM do you or would you allow your toddler to wear two piece bathing suits?
personally i don't like the look for a public place like a beach or a public pool but in your own backyard (playing in the pool or sprinklers) is different.
rosebud* 07-10-2007, 07:03 PM the last few bathing suits my youngest had have been two pieces. I have let her pick them out and that is what she likes. The bottoms are always boy shorts and its usually a halter style top. But we don't go to the beach they always just swam at my mom's
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 07:04 PM i just don't like the look, i think at a public place where it's busy there is too high of a chance you are giving a pedophile a free show kwim?
Becca 07-10-2007, 07:05 PM I think 2 pieces are cuter than heck...
*Crystal* 07-10-2007, 07:06 PM My daughter has been bought two pieces from different people so I had no choice. But we do not allow her to wear them in public. There was once we took her to the beach and she had a two piece on, my cousin bought it for her and I wasnt around!! I didnt like it!
Loretta 07-10-2007, 07:08 PM I think 2 pieces are cuter than heck...
Yup, I agree! I always had them as a kid, and see no issue with letting kids wear them.
A pedophile will get just as turned on by a one piece or a pair of jeans. IMO that is a silly reason to restrict what a toddler wears. Creepy people are everywhere, but you can't stop them from looking at your kid any more than we can stop them from existing. Sad but true.
If we're talking an older child(kindergarten and up) then it's different...
it covers everything... it's not like its a thong.... the only thing more that it shows is a little belly.
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 07:10 PM the two pieces i've seen on toddlers don't stay put, they ride up and show off the chest area

I was thinking that too.
Sarah 07-10-2007, 07:12 PM Emily had a two piece when she was a toddler, and it was so cute :). It was ladybugs and the bottom piece was frilly. I don't see anything wrong with it.
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 07:13 PM Yup, I agree! I always had them as a kid, and see no issue with letting kids wear them.

that's a good point. i guess i just said toddler because i was thinking the 3-5 year olds

That is more of a fit issue. Like the parent buying the next size up so that it will last, or possibly the child is just in between sizes.
MontanaSweetie 07-10-2007, 07:15 PM I have no problem with it...I agree with Becca that they are cuter than heck. If I had a daughter, I would definitely let her wear 2-pieces as a toddler.
Brandi 07-10-2007, 07:17 PM Shelby has one and it's ADORABLE. Its from the Disney Store and the top is actually like a little tankini... it doesn't actually bear the mid drift and the bottoms are like a regular bottom with a skirt over it so it looks like a little tankini with a skirt... it is sooooo adorable!
I'm cool with the two pieces. I've actually seen PLENTY of little girl babies that don't wear tops at all... just bottoms or whatever. Honestly, they look exactly the same up top as boys do. At a public pool, I don't think I'd bring shelby without a top but I've seen people do it out at beaches while the babies are splashing around and playing in the sand. I didn't give it a second though, really.
As kids get older, I say cover them up a bit more but toddlers look cute as buttons with just about anything on and I don't think a two piece is that big of a deal. If someone's going to be pervie, I think they'd be pervie whether the child is wearing a one piece or bikini... it really wouldn't matter to a real sicko who'd think of a child in that way. So, I say let them be cute in their little bikinis.
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 07:18 PM i dunno it just really worries me for some reason seeing a toddler in a two piece. like the little tankini styles not so much but the string bikini styles really aren't cool
~Jess~ 07-10-2007, 07:18 PM Ella has 3 bikini's and they are cute as hell. Pervs are everywhere.
Brandi 07-10-2007, 07:21 PM ME when I was little! :giggle Granted, this was in our backyard, but I'm sure I was probably taken to a pool or something at some point with it on. Babies are just babies...

Ella has a bikini with the triangle top parts that cover her boobs and it's stinkin cute. It's old navy and it covers her boobs better then some of the cheap ones I have for her from walmart. Her old navy one is a stink but it ties very well and she wears a water diaper so you can't see butt or boobs. So I don't see what the big deal is. In europe they just sell bottom b/c girls and woman don't wear tops and there are pervs there too.
at LEAST until age 5, everyone's bodies (minus the "privates" ) looks pretty much the same...IMO

aww look at cute little baby Brandi!!! adorable!
rosebud* 07-10-2007, 07:27 PM For me if I buy a suit and it is fitting funky then I take it back. But my little one loves a two piece because it doesn't ride up on her like a one piece does. she has a longer torso. so it's hard to fit her in one pieces anyway.
I have no problem putting my daughter in two pieces...never even thought about people looking at her in that way...
harrisonsdream 07-10-2007, 08:33 PM maybe i'm paranoid about things like that lol
Mommy2Bailey 07-10-2007, 08:37 PM My daughter has 2 pieces. She is ten and has always had a 2 piece. I buy one that fits her well, The one she has now has a little tank top (yes it shows midriff) and little boy shorts bottoms.
I always had 2 pieces too. I see no problem with it.
USCGBoxerMom 07-10-2007, 08:48 PM I loved my little girls in two pieces...cute little girls with belly's sticking out. (L) fast forward to today...my rapidly developing 5'5" 105pd 12 year old with curves and boobs in a two piece NO WAY!! I would have her covered from neck to ankle if I could.
sgmwife1 07-10-2007, 08:50 PM I think it is harmless as little toddlers.
Caimbrie 07-10-2007, 08:57 PM I think they are adorable on little toddlers. Now an 11 or 12 year old.. that's a little different.
Mommy2Bailey 07-10-2007, 09:00 PM I think they are adorable on little toddlers. Now an 11 or 12 year old.. that's a little different.
lmao. Kids these days develop so much quicker than I remember developing. My 10 year old however still has the body of a 5 year old. No butt or boobs anywhere in site.
I think when she starts developing she will be too shy to wear a 2 piece anywhere but at home.
Caimbrie 07-10-2007, 09:02 PM lmao. Kids these days develop so much quicker than I remember developing. My 10 year old however still has the body of a 5 year old. No butt or boobs anywhere in site.
I think when she starts developing she will be too shy to wear a 2 piece anywhere but at home.
Yah, if my 11 year old still looked like a little girl then I'd be fine but if she had boobs and everything I think I'd keep her covered for a few years :lol
Lilithdrff 07-10-2007, 09:03 PM When I was a little kid a billion years ago, I had a 2 piece. That said, I always buy my kids one piece suits, lol. Although I don't mind a 2 piece, as long as they completely cover all the right places.
Mommy2Bailey 07-10-2007, 09:09 PM Yah, if my 11 year old still looked like a little girl then I'd be fine but if she had boobs and everything I think I'd keep her covered for a few years :lol
I agree. Tony's daughter is 14 and looks 18. She has boobs almost as big as mine. She wears a 2 piece and he always looks pissed when he sees her in it....lol
I think he would throw a towel over her and haul her back home
Caimbrie 07-10-2007, 09:12 PM I agree. Tony's daughter is 14 and looks 18. She has boobs almost as big as mine. She wears a 2 piece and he always looks pissed when he sees her in it....lol
I think he would throw a towel over her and haul her back home
I think I would too!
Kelsey 07-10-2007, 09:12 PM My niece wears a 2-piece and it is the cutest thing I've ever seen! They have a neighborhood pool, so it's not their own backyard, but it's also not a public pool. Her 2-piece is a cute little tankini and it's just adorable!
Jennie 07-10-2007, 09:14 PM If it fits right and it's not all hiking up, I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm not a big fan of letting a toddler girl go without a shirt just because her boobs haven't grown tho. Once they do get boobs and what not, then they can go to a one piece or even a tankini.
brentscrystal 07-10-2007, 09:25 PM My dd, who is now 9.5, has always worn a two piece because she has always been so tall. I'm not a fan of bikini's but I love tankini's.
~rain~ 07-10-2007, 09:31 PM I think two pieces are cute but not really for children. My dd is 5 and the only reason she has a 2 piece is because she went on a field trip to the beach and i didnt want her having to get naked if she had to use the bathroom. soon as school was over she got a new one piece
*~*Cori*~* 07-10-2007, 09:31 PM Oh Brandi that picture is sooo darn cute!!! I think I have seen it before in Jax!
I wasnt' allowed to wear a 2 piece as a kid till I was an older teenager and they couldn't really stop me but didn't care for them. I also was always self conscious so wore the tankins and shorts... still do
If we ever have a daughter she can wear a 2 piece as a little one as long as I deem it tactful... probably the tankinis/halters and shorts.
Teresa 07-10-2007, 09:33 PM Ericka is 4 and I just bought her a little bikini. The main reason I bought it is because she has such a hard time getting out of a one piece bathing suit to go potty.
knockouttrish 07-10-2007, 09:51 PM My daughter is 6 going on 7 and she has her first one. We got it for her last year, but it ended up being to big for her to wear.
I always had two-pieces as a toddler/little kid. I loved them. I don't think there was anything crazy about it either - all the pics... you can only see my tummy! lol. Then I went to one-pieces from like 7-15 and post 16 it's been all bikini's all the time.
MelissaMc424 07-10-2007, 10:08 PM Cam has had 2 bikinis... I think they're adorable! She also has a one piece but the bikini is way cuter on her.
amandalaine 07-10-2007, 10:09 PM Kayla is 7 and wears a two piece. I don't see a problem with it really. I agree that if a perv is going to be a perv, he'll be one with a one piece or a two. It only becomes a concern for me when she wants to wear one because she wants to flaunt her body. Then we will go to one pieces and sarongs :)
As far as toddlers wearing them, again no problem. To me, it's almost like asking the question should a baby boy just be in swim trunks or should he wear a shirt too since there are pervs out there.
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 07-10-2007, 10:46 PM It wouldn't matter to me I think it's cute. Hell when I was little I used to just have the bottom on no top. :shrug I was young who cares... that and I was at a little kids pool that was like a foot deep with my mom and a bunch of other kids. We even played in my backyard without shirts on past toddler years when we could talk pretty well. No close neighbors though. :giggle
DakotaCowgirl 07-11-2007, 12:05 AM Personally, I don't care for them. My husband saw some kids down the street and the girls were wearing them. He was so upset saying they didn't have anything to show...don't show it!
If they were more covered up...maybe; but, probly not. I think it is a modesty issue for us.
queentreev1004 07-11-2007, 02:25 AM Yup, I agree!
:agree totally with you 2...my 6 month old wears a two piece and it is absolutely adorable on her. but to each it's own...
chelsea<3josh 07-11-2007, 09:15 AM i totally see no problem with it at all. i wore them when i was little, i wore them when i was a baby, toddler, grade school, middle school, high school now. i work with sex offenders. if they are going to offend they are going to offend if the kid is wearing a 2 piece one piece, jeans shorts tshirt anything they dont really care. the 2 piece is not what triggers them...it is other things. plus toddler girls look like toddler boys on top so i dont really see a prob with 2 pieces if i have a daughter she will have one they are so cute!
PrincessBlue505 07-11-2007, 09:25 AM I love 2 pieces on toddlers. Soooo cute! And much easier to deal with when having to change diapers and such. I like the way they look and the ease of getting DD in and out of a 2 piece as opposed to a 1 piece. In fact, I ONLY buy 2 piece suits for DD right now for convenience and cuz they're just so gosh darn cute! She only has 1 one piece suit and it's one her grandma sent her.
There's nothing I can do if some pervert is looking, and they're going to regardless of what a child is wearing. Same reason I don't have a problem putting pics of DD on the internet. As DH says, who cares-it's not like you know.
girl20racer 07-11-2007, 09:35 AM DD is two and has a two pc, I think she looks so dang cute it! I love seeing lil babies in them, it's so cute.
She usually ends up in just her swimmer anyway :lol
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/girl20racer/22%20Months/HPIM0182.jpg
Jennifer 07-11-2007, 09:37 AM I think there is nothing wrong as long as they are tasteful...I saw one at the pool the other day that was a "potato chip" bikini and didn't even cover anything...there was NO point to the suit.
I'm more of the tankini type anyway, so as long as it covers I'll have no problem with it.
sunshyne 07-11-2007, 09:41 AM I have no problem with it. My dd has a J-Lo booty and it pretty much sticks out of everything unfortunately....her suit right now is a 2 piece and has the bottoms that are kind of shorts like....her rear still hangs out a bit, but she is 4 and she is totally cute. Another huge and great point Teresa already made is that it is harder to get the one piece off when they have to go potty and the 2 piece is so much easier.
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 07-11-2007, 09:41 AM I don't know for me little girls are like boys at that age they have nothing to hide up top. :shrug It might also have something to do with the way I was raised but even having them have no top wouldn't be a big deal to me. :dunno I guess I won't do that when I have a daughter though unless I'm back in HI since it seems like it wouldn't be a good idea in other places. :giggle
I think 2 pieces are cuter than heck...
Yup, I agree! I always had them as a kid, and see no issue with letting kids wear them.

it covers everything... it's not like its a thong.... the only thing more that it shows is a little belly.
I agree with all of the above
the two pieces i've seen on toddlers don't stay put, they ride up and show off the chest area
toddlers dont really have a "chest" to be worried about...
ME when I was little! :giggle Granted, this was in our backyard, but I'm sure I was probably taken to a pool or something at some point with it on. Babies are just babies...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/dups_smallfry/pics482-1.jpg
OMG, that is too cute, that could easily be a pic of shelby! you guys are twins
Dragonfly76 07-11-2007, 09:53 AM fast forward to today...my rapidly developing 5'5" 105pd 12 year old with curves and boobs in a two piece NO WAY!! I would have her covered from neck to ankle if I could.
:yes I'll be dealing with that in a few short years.
Traci 07-11-2007, 09:58 AM As a toddler I think it's cute. Unless the kid is overweight. DD is 10 and we don't let her wear a two piece. More DH than me. She is not overweight but very developed for a 10 year old. This summer I got her a tankini. I thin it lookks cute on her but no bikinis.
Sarah 07-11-2007, 10:16 AM Ericka is 4 and I just bought her a little bikini. The main reason I bought it is because she has such a hard time getting out of a one piece bathing suit to go potty.
See, that's the main reason why I had Emily in a bikini when she was so little. Now, she wears a one piece.
bettyboop604 07-11-2007, 11:18 AM Elly has a two piece... I think it is so cute. Hers has a square top and the bottom is skirted. It is very cute.
taraw226 07-11-2007, 01:28 PM i bought both my girls 2 pieces this year...meagan is 3.5 and kylie will be 2 on saturday (although she's teeny tiny lol). there was no way in heck i was wrestling a one piece off either of them if they have to potty or if i had to change kylie's swimming diaper.
i have never had a problem with the tops riding up or the bottoms falling down (although they get wedgies sometimes, but they'd do that with a one piece) and all you see is *maybe* 4 inches of tummy/back.
now, i will say, the suit i originally got for kylie (with anchors all over it!) she does not wear now...i put it on her once and she reminded me of a stripper so it hasn't seen the light of day since. she now wears a cute flower/striped one a friend gave us as a hand me down.
to me, saying that a child is more at risk from a pedophile because she's in a bikini is like saying a woman is more at risk/deserves to be raped because of what she's wearing. the people who commit both crimes are sick bastards and clothing isn't going to do anything to prevent you from falling victim to them. that's JMO.
MichelleB 07-11-2007, 01:30 PM Taylor has 2 piece bathing suits. There's nothing wrong with it.
SezzySue 07-11-2007, 01:34 PM i don't like the ones that look like bikinis at all, but i bought my sister one that is a skirt bottom and the top is like a sports bra style and i love it
piggypunkinetta 07-11-2007, 01:38 PM I prefer two pieces for dd just because they don't ride up her butt like a one-piece does. I think in the 8 years I have been buying her bathing suits she has only had one one-piece and it was too cute to resist. It was pink and had a tutu. Now I buy her bikinis with the sport style bottom and halter style tops. Not string bikinis. Now when she starts to develop we will reevaulate her swimwear.
tifflovezyou 07-11-2007, 01:39 PM My daughter has more bikinis than I can count.... probably 10-12? Heres her Camo one, I think its sooo cute. I dont think theres a thing wrong with it, a perv is gonna be a perv no matter what!
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z296/tifflovezyou/pics262.jpg
duckyprincess 07-11-2007, 01:59 PM dd has 2 pieces and full body... the first time she went to the beach she wore a 2 piece... i think they look cute!
Bigmammajohns 07-11-2007, 02:04 PM My daughter has both two and one pieces. We go together and let her pick them out for the season, even a a toddler. She would chose by color or character and as long as they fit and covered all the right areas I don't mind at all.
Ellen 07-11-2007, 02:06 PM Don't see anything wrong with a toddler, child, pre-teen or teen wearing a bikini, as long as it fits them and isn't over revealing.
Ashnbri 07-11-2007, 02:26 PM I don't see a problem with it..but my DH would flip out about it. lol
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 07-11-2007, 02:27 PM My daughter has more bikinis than I can count.... probably 10-12? Heres her Camo one, I think its sooo cute. I dont think theres a thing wrong with it, a perv is gonna be a perv no matter what!

Awww she looks so cute :)
ChewiesBaby 07-11-2007, 02:44 PM Absolutely... nothing cuter than a chunky baby in a bikini!!
Exhibit A:

tifflovezyou 07-11-2007, 02:49 PM Awww she looks so cute :)
Thanks, though she looks NOTHING like me... Its like I had nothing to do with it! :tears
mara_jade81 07-11-2007, 03:24 PM I think I'd rather my daughter wear a two piece as a toddler than as a teenager :lol. Madison has been asking lately for a two piece but she calls them "boobie" swim suits.
Shep's Wife 07-11-2007, 03:50 PM All of my girls either have had or have a two piece. I have no issue with it as long as it is tasteful and fits them right.
I try as hard as I can to let them pick what kind of clothes they want to wear, within reason :wink
Gabby only has 1 pieces but thats b/c that's all I've seen. I don't think there's anything wrong w/ a baby or toddler wearing a 2 piece!
I think when she gets to be about 5-10 though, I'd prefer a 2 piece that had a top like a sports bra instead of like a binkini top. Just looks better, IMO. I do agree a perv will be a perv regardless, but it still makes me feel a bit better. Their bodies start to develop.
luvmysailor81904 07-11-2007, 05:24 PM If I had a daughter I'd put her in a two-piece...I think they are adorable :)
Aurora 07-11-2007, 05:58 PM I think two pieces are so cute when they're little...esp. when they are frilly and girly. Everyone looks the same at that age anyway. I really don't have a problem with them in general as long as they are tasteful.
Traci 07-11-2007, 07:19 PM All of my girls either have had or have a two piece. I have no issue with it as long as it is tasteful and fits them right.
I try as hard as I can to let them pick what kind of clothes they want to wear, within reason :wink
Thats my thing. I have no issue with a two piece as long as it is tasteful and fits right. My DD is 14 kids size with boobs going into a full B at 10. Most bathingsiuts, tops, dresses in that size are not ment for kids with boobs. So shopping is hard.
2Princesses 07-11-2007, 08:03 PM do you or would you allow your toddler to wear two piece bathing suits?
personally i don't like the look for a public place like a beach or a public pool but in your own backyard (playing in the pool or sprinklers) is different.
I agree. DD wears a one piece in public and a Two piece when we are at a friends house or in our backyard.
define 07-11-2007, 08:06 PM I don't have a problem with it and like Becca said, they are cute as heck.
familyof4 07-11-2007, 08:15 PM I think they are adorable..:)
TLH6775 07-11-2007, 08:21 PM awwwww i think 2 pieces on little girls are freaking ADORABLE! i dont have kids, so maybe you wont think my opinion really means anything lol buttt i definitely would let my daughter wear them if thats what she liked, they are so cute! and they dont show that much more
Kaitlyn has a few two pieces and a couple one pieces. To be honest I prefer the one piece suits on her. I just think they're more girly/prissy/dainty looking- not because I'm worried about some perv looking at her...
This is one of Katy's suits:

that's adorable
ChewiesBaby 07-12-2007, 11:45 AM very cute!! Where did you find it?
Krisha 07-12-2007, 11:57 AM Our 3 year old rocks an adorable bikini. There's nothing wrong with a young child but what I don't like is the pre-teen aged girls wearing tiny bikini's.
MelissaMc424 07-12-2007, 12:05 PM Our 3 year old rocks an adorable bikini. There's nothing wrong with a young child but what I don't like is the pre-teen aged girls wearing tiny bikini's.

Krisha 07-12-2007, 12:17 PM Oh now that is adorable.
ilovemymechanic 07-12-2007, 01:36 PM honestly i have never thought about the 2 piece swimsuits. but u do bring up some good points. me i was never allowed to wear a 2 piece when i was kid i didnot get my first 2 piece until i was like 14 and then my parents still did not like it. i prob would not let my daughter wear one (if i ever have a girl) cause i just wasn't raised that ways. heck i am 22 and still have to be careful what i wear around my grandparents when i get to go see them. they are really old fashion. but i love them so much.
Green~Mammy 07-12-2007, 01:49 PM If I had a girl it would depend on the cut an style of the suit there were some one pieces this summer I would not let my young girl wear either. 2 pieces are helpful when potty learning a child and for the potty learned BUT still might not be able to hold it long enough to get the suit off.
These are infant/toddler suits The first is Old Navy the last three are the Gap.

harrisonsdream 07-12-2007, 01:53 PM exactly green mammy we agree. that first one uh-uh no way. until they can buy their own swim suits. i'll buy my teens 2 pieces but you can bet your ass that they will be doing the jump test (the put it on as you would wear it and jump around and bend down and pick things up)
