I don't have children- so this is kind of a vent from a person off the street, so to speak-- as in "armchair quarterbacking"
I just got back from meeting my DBs relatives-- I am really shocked (shocked!) that his nephew over 3 years- is still full time in diapers!! And he screeches-- what a brat!! His language skills also sucked, too- no sentences- very few words in his vocabulary, very raw word ennunciation- Then even more appalling- my BFs best friend's daughter is still in diapers at over 3 years! (I just heard girls were supposed to be easier and faster than boys)-- Anyway- if/when I have kids, I hope to keep to a strict age limit policy on diaper usage--I rather there be accidents than no training at such a late age. Anyway, I think a little daycare for children 33 months and up is a great thing! -and of course lots of beatins- spare the rod and spoil the child and all that!! :lol :tease
I've only had a couple of really spoiled cousins- the rest were great- does anyone have any advice for dealing with young spoiled children?-- My aunt and mom laid down the law with that one cousin, and he stopped kicking them!

It is completely normal if a 3 year old is not potty trained yet. And as you said boys are (generally speaking) later at being potty trained than girls.

My daughter was fully trained at 2 years. My sone was fully trained right at 2 and a half years. I think every child is different but the parents need to work with the child.

The boy sounds like he may have autism or something similar. My cousin is severely autistic and he didn't potty train until he was about 5 years old. He also "talked" the same way you described.
My daughter potty trained at 3 years old but wasn't in full time diapers. I'm glad I didn't push her into it because once she started going potty in the toilet all by herself I didn't really have to do anything else.

It is not unusual for a child to not be potty trained at the age of three. As with any area of childrearing there is a broad range of "normal". Additionally, there may be other issues you are not aware of (based on some of your other "observations"). I would be very caustious about passing judgement on the situation when you are not directly involved in it.

first of all let me say I am very strict on my boys (I dont have the patience to be other wise) and they both were raised to get punished and spanked from the time they started crawling and getting into stuff.
My oldest son (11 years old tomorrow) was a very easy child he only had to get into trouble for something once and would never do it again till this day all I have to do is give him the look. As far as potty training I startrd working with him at 13 months and he still wasnt fully trained till about 2 weeks before his 3rd birthday.
My youngest son (4 1/2 years old) is the exact opposite he is a hellian and gets his ass busted several times on a daily basis, and still doesnt learn his lesson he is VERY VERY VERY stubborn to where my oldest isnt - at his 3 year old check up I brought up the concern to the doctor that he was not the least bit interested in potty training and the doc said that is completey fine that it will come soon and that the normal age for kids to be potty trained is 2 1/2 for girls and 3 1/2 for boys - at 3 1/2 exactley it was like a light bulb came on in his and and he was trained just like that no more messes or anything- I just wish the lightbulb would come on about getting his ass busted but he is tooooooooo stubborn
I used to be the type of person that when I seen horrible kids I would blame it on the parents not busting their ass ...and most of the time that is the reason but ...my youngest gave us the wake up call that, that isnt always the case! :)

Personally I would have started to go nuts if my daughter wasn't potty trained by three years old. She was mostly potty trained by the time she was two and Hayden is 21 months now and going in the potty sometimes. I haven't worked with him as much because we've been moving around the past couple of months.
I know there are a lot of children out there who aren't trained by three years of age, but man... I can't imagine having to change diapers for that long :lol
