View Full Version : ??'s for Boxer mommies
~KitKat~ 07-16-2007, 08:34 PM What do you feed your Boxer? DH thinks our baby is not big enough but every boxer owner we talk to say he is fine cause he is an active dog and he is contantly playing. we feed him beneiful (SP) but my cuz feeds her dogs some pro plan performance thingy and her dogs are huge as in meaty!!!
Traci 07-16-2007, 08:36 PM Mine eats Pedagree. Anything else gives him gas from hell. We're talking toxic.:giggle
~KitKat~ 07-16-2007, 08:39 PM Yeah the gas problem is horrible!!! But I heard that is what boxers are known for haha. How much does yours weigh? and how old. Ours is 15 months
USCGBoxerMom 07-16-2007, 10:33 PM We feed Iams Lamb and Rice to the Girls, we were doing Blue Buffalo but Maggie gets HORRIBLE food allergies and we have to rotate food for her. They each eat 3.5 cups a day. They are about 14 months and weigh 50 & 52 lbs. They are SOLID muscle.
Boxers grow for at least their first two years. Up one year and out the other. The 2nd year is when they gain a vast majority of thier muscle mass and wide chests.
mrsjones0520 07-16-2007, 10:35 PM My baby is half pit and half boxer, and I feed her Purina dog chow. Both her and my little Chi eat it-they have both always had Purina though so I'm kinda hesitant to switch brands
Daphne 07-16-2007, 10:38 PM I feed Grunt Purina One - I think he looks skinnier than he should but the vet says he's fine (he's 4 months old)

Thank you for the info!!! Thanks everyone! This really helps me out big time cause we just kept thinking he would be done growing at a year and a half so that makes me feel much much much better!!! He is about 45 lbs right now but he seems shorter then most. well then again maybe not lol
USCGBoxerMom 07-17-2007, 08:22 AM Boxers are not a large breed dog, they are actually a Medium breed...Males are only about 23-25 inches at the withers when full grown.
My Boxers go through periods where they look heavy, then lanky, then heavy, then super skinny, then heavy again. It's normal. As long as you can rub your hand lightly down the side and feel the ribs (but not see them) and he has a defined waist he is good to go.
sunshyne 07-17-2007, 11:31 AM I feed bruce Purina Pro Plan Chicken & Rice. He will be 2 years old in a couple of weeks and he isn't very big. He is medium size and not very heavy.....he is healthy though :dunno
Traci 07-17-2007, 02:19 PM Mine is really small. he is 50 pounds and 6 years old. Vet said he is healthy just very small for a boxer. Gas tip. 1 spoonful of plain yogert mixed with their food. If yours has bad gas all the time it may help.:P

HeatherA. 07-19-2007, 01:08 AM I feed my boxer (as well as my boston terrier) Innova Evo. The BT has allergies to any wheat product. My boxer is a big brute though. He only gets about 1 1/2 cups of food a day (he always leaves food, and she eats the same thing and leaves food too, so I know he isn't hungry) and is about 75lbs. Pretty much solid muscle though. I have tried every dog food and tip known to man, I assure you. EVERY "natural" food out there, B.A.R.F, etc....NOTHING cures the toxic fumes that emit from his ass. NOTHING. The yogurt does HELP though, just doesn't cure it.

He is so handsome. The kids look great too.:lol
mara_jade81 07-19-2007, 02:29 PM We feed Apollo Nutro Lamb and Rice (I can't remember the exact fancy name).
It depends too on what type of Boxer he is... Boxers with more German working line in them are going to be thicker and heavier than a more American style Boxer. Apollo has always been skinny! He didn't start to gain much for weight until he was over 2 years old and now he's only about 65lbs.
