do you think that anyone should be able to buy USMC shirts or navy shirts or army? esp if they aren't military or affiliated?

What do you consider military affiliated?

why not? it's a "supporting our troops" kind of thing

like having a significant other, or immediate family member in the military

Personally I really don't care. :dunno I'm not going to get all upset over something as small as wearing a shirt that people see as being only for a specific group of people. I wore camis in high school and used them for when I went hiking (I loved the pockets) and it was one thing I didn't mind getting dirty.

why not? it's a "supporting our troops" kind of thing

I think its supportive. I dont see a problem with it.. So long as it isnt used in a slanderous fashion.

i was just wondering what your thoughts were because i see alot of people who denounce the war or the troops and they pull out one of those shirts, not when they are protesting but otherwise. alot of people i went to h.s with are that way

Yeah, I am VERY against it if its used to slander our military. Obviously all of us on here would be. But for people that wanna wear them to be supportive, MORE POWER TO YOU! I also went to HS with kids that did this. But they werent running out to enlist either.

Kids are getting desperate for attention. Maybe they should be schooled on how hard it is being a military gf/wife

i see no problem with it, but i do notice that when i wear usmc stuff people sometimes ask me questions or pay more attention to me. i am quick to point out that it is db that is in the miltary not me, i was thanked for my service once in the airport, i was embarassed because it's not me that's serving. i told db and thanked him for the man!

Ummm well I don't see a problem with it! I mean since dh has joined our families wear ARMY shirts now....but my family always has worn ARMY shirts or some sort of military to show support. My brother, dad & grand-dad both served in the ARMY & Great-Uncle was a Marines in World War II. Actually I think it's nice to see others...being civilians wearing them to show their support!

I don't care. We live in a free country! People are free to be as stupid or insulting as they want. :P It actually does my heart good to see civilians wearing military themed t-shirts. At least the military is something they think about.

make no difference to me. I have been thanked many a time for my service of being a spouse. A couple actually waited in their car to see who the proud spouse was (car magnet) and the lady got out hugged me and said thank you for all you and your husband do. it doesn't bother me if someone who isn't affliated with the military wears a shirt because they are promoting the military when they think they are denouncing it. now anti military shirts are a different story.

Well you know, there are a lot of veterans that wear their military themed clothes to protest the war. Should they not do that because it isn't "positive"?

Ummmm is this any different to wearing camo pants, skirts and shorts? I don't think so. It's an article of clothing, not a medal of honour.

I don't wear any Navy things really BUT I do wear things that say Veterans for Peace. The symbol for the group is a dove carrying a olive branch. I am a Veteran so I feel I have earned the right. I think what Veterans for Peace does IS positive though.
This is there logo the dove with the olive branch on a helmet:

Who cares?
I wear a Lynyrd Skynyrd shirt all the time but I got nothing to do with em.
I've never seen someone wearing a military tshirt and protesting troops, if that's what's being said?
For every one negative person there are 100 people who do support troops.

I don't go to protests BECAUSE my husband is still AD and desires to be an officer. I will not hurt his career with my political beliefs. I DO attend peace fairs and peace walks.

Now, I don't like seeing a civilian wearing cammis/BDUs or dress uniforms with jeans and putting on fake chevrons. Now that I think is wrong.

sure, if they want to promote/support the military with a tshirt, why not? when i was in highschool i went to the army-navy surplus store and bought a tshirt (it was quite possibly one of the most comfortable ones i've ever owned)

No. Frankly, it irritates me that they're selling all this military stuff just everywhere anymore.

I think, if you wanna do that, wear the mock cammo, or some "support" shirt.

Personally, if you're not dating, related, married, in the military, or former military, I think it's ridiculous to be wearing the material. JMO. It really irritates me to see random people that aren't "affiliated" at all wearing military gear.

yea but what about people who have friends in the military? don't they count as being "supportive?" i mean, everyone probably has a good friend in the military...

I had something to say but no matter how I typed it, it came out confusing. So I'll just say...it is none of my business what other people wear, just like it is none of their business what I wear.

That is such a good point. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who is not in someway affiliated with the military, even if it is indirectly.

I really do not care. I would rather worry about people showing their hinnies then people wearing military shirts. I do not have time to wonder why they are wearing it.

I dont really care, cause how do you know that someone wasnt it...If you would see my dad you would not believe he was in...But he is a disabled vet...So I think it would be hard to assume that someone has nothing to do with the military.

Also, how do you know the older man who may br protesting the war isnt a veitnam vet?

i did not read this whole thread because I am just stopping on here for a few....

anyway.

I am not affiliated. I wear NAVY and ARMY clothes sometimes. I denounce the war wearing them. THat is in no way slanderous to the troops at all.

I dont wear it to "get attention" either. I wear it because I have friends who serve that I am terribly proud of. I live near the naval academy and am a NAVY sports fan... I think it is unfair for ANYONE To assume they know why someone wears a USMC, ARMY, CG, or NAVY shirt. It is very very judgemental.

Yeah, that. It isn't as though they are wearing military uniforms, they are wearing "slogan wear" - it is no different than buying a t-shirt with your favorite sports team, driver, etc, imo. You are showing support/admiration for that organization.

Personally I don't find it any different than wearing your "team" jersey or wearing a band T-shirt or a Harley T-shirt or something along those lines.

Bigger things in life to worry about people.

The only thing that irks me is when people wear actual uniforms with nametapes and rank on them, because that is illegal.
